7-Eleven’s 2024 announcement-era coverage pointed to ramen, rice balls and milk tea as examples of Japanese-inspired foods coming to U.S. stores. A later, specifically confirmed U.S. offering is the Japanese-Style Egg Salad Sandwich, announced in December 2025 for participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes locations. That does not mean any item is in stock at every store today: check with your local location before making a trip.
What did the 2024 story say was coming?
A July 4, 2024 Gizmodo article, citing The Wall Street Journal, described a broader push to bring Japanese-inspired food to U.S. 7-Eleven stores. It named ramen, rice balls and milk tea as examples. What later U.S. product is confirmed?
On December 3, 2025, 7-Eleven, Inc. announced a Japanese-Style Egg Salad Sandwich for participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes stores. The company says it is made with milk bread and KEWPIE Mayonnaise and is inspired by the sandwich sold at 7-Eleven stores in Japan. See the company’s announcement and product listing.
Brandon Brown, 7-Eleven, Inc.’s Senior Vice President of Fresh Foods, said in the announcement: “The egg salad sandwich has long been a favorite item in 7-Eleven stores across Japan, and we’re excited to introduce a version for customers in the U.S. inspired by its beloved flavor.”

- Open the official 7-Eleven store locator.
- Search by address, city, state or ZIP to find nearby locations.
- Contact the specific store and ask whether the Japanese-Style Egg Salad Sandwich is currently available before you go.
The company’s announcement and product listing identify the sandwich, but neither confirms live inventory at an individual store. Availability is limited to participating locations and can change.
What the company-wide figures do—and do not—tell you
In its 2025 announcement, 7-Eleven, Inc. said it operated, franchised or licensed more than 13,000 stores in the U.S. and Canada. It also reported more than 100 million members across 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards. Those figures describe the company’s footprint and loyalty programs; they are not counts of stores carrying the sandwich or measures of demand for Japanese-inspired food.
