Harbor Freight’s sub-$5 picks span small woodworking clamps, storage bins, magnetic shop accessories, brushes and a multipurpose painter’s tool. In a SlashGear roundup updated April 18, 2026, each made the list based on Harbor Freight customer ratings and review counts—not independent durability testing. The prices and ratings below are what that article reported, so check the product page or your local store for current price and availability.
What the reported prices and reviews show
The table keeps the dated price claims alongside the reported review signals. Ratings and recommendation shares are Harbor Freight customer feedback as reported by SlashGear, not results from an independent study.

Which finds make sense for your project?
For woodworking: Pittsburgh quick-release bar clamps
The 6-inch version is the roundup’s smallest clamp pick, with a carbon-steel bar, cast-iron jaws, 6-inch clamping capacity, 2.5-inch throat depth and 10-inch total length. The article also reports a 12-inch version at $4.49, rated 4.7 stars by more than 2,200 reviewers, with the same throat depth. Its longer clamping capacity may suit wider workpieces, while the 6-inch model is the more compact option. Both price claims are dated, not confirmed current prices.

For sorting small parts: Storehouse stacking bins
The Clear Stacking Bin is a compact organizer for workshop odds and ends, but its reported 15-pound capacity is a limit to keep in mind when choosing what to store. The article says it was in-store only. It also mentions a similar Yukon bin listed online for $2.99 and a Storehouse 4-inch Stacking Tilt Bin at $2.99, rated 4.8 stars from more than 800 reviewers. Those alternatives may be easier to compare if the clear bin is unavailable, but check current listings and local stock.
For tool access and loose hardware: U.S. General magnetic accessories
The 18-inch Magnetic Tool Holder is intended to keep tools accessible in a shop. For loose fasteners or other small parts, the article also lists a 6-inch Magnetic Parts Tray at $4.99, rated 4.8 stars from more than 1,300 buyers. It is reported to hold up to 10 pounds, has a nonmarring rubber base and comes in five colors. The ratings and prices are from the dated roundup, not a guarantee of today’s listing.

For applying liquids: HFT brushes
The 36-piece horsehair set is the low-cost option for tasks involving oil, paint or glue, particularly when you want multiple small brushes rather than one long-reach brush. Two other HFT brush products in the article were the 18-inch Deluxe Dip & Wash Long Reach Brush ($4.99; 4.8 stars from more than 350 reviews) and the Deluxe Wheel & Grill Brush Set ($3.99; 4.6 stars from more than 400 buyers). Match the brush to the material and job; a high rating alone does not establish suitability for every surface or chemical.
For scraping and painting prep: Quinn 14-in-1 Painter’s Tool
The article describes a stainless-steel body and 3-inch blade, with functions for scraping, opening cans, spreading and other tasks. It was reported as in-store only. How to judge a low-priced tool before buying
A strong rating is one useful signal, not a substitute for checking whether the item suits your job. SlashGear says its selection considered product features and overall ratings, required at least 200 Harbor Freight website reviews and an average above 4.5 stars, and also considered recommendation rates and online versus in-store availability. Those criteria describe how its list was assembled; they do not amount to hands-on testing.
- Check the current total. Verify today’s price and stock at the product page or local store; the listed prices above are dated claims.
- Match the capacity to the task. For clamps, compare clamping capacity and throat depth. For bins and trays, check dimensions and weight limits.
- Use review counts as context. A high average from many retailer reviews may be informative, but it is not an independent quality assessment.
- Confirm availability first. The roundup identified some products as in-store only, and availability can change.
