Net worth is an estimate of assets minus liabilities. A tennis player’s wealth may reflect prize money, endorsements, appearance fees, business stakes, investments, property, taxes, fees, and spending. Career prize money records court winnings; annual earnings measure income over a defined period. Neither figure, on its own, is a net-worth estimate.

Federer’s off-court earnings and business stake
Forbes estimated that Federer earned roughly $1 billion pretax from endorsements, appearances, and other business endeavors over his tennis career. It also reported that his estimated pretax earnings in 2020 were $106.3 million. These are earnings figures, not additional amounts to add to his $1.1 billion net-worth estimate. Djokovic’s prize-money record is a different measure
Guinness World Records reported that Novak Djokovic had accumulated $185,065,269 in career prize money as of November 4, 2024, combining singles and infrequent doubles earnings. The record page described this as the total at the conclusion of his truncated 2024 season. It is a dated career-prize-money figure, not a measure of Djokovic’s net worth and not a ranking of the richest players.

Why annual earnings lists cannot supply an all-time wealth ranking
Forbes’ 2026 tennis list ranks players by on-court and off-court earnings over the prior 12 months, dating from the 2025 U.S. Open. Its methodology includes prize money, player payouts from the ATP Tour’s profit-sharing program, and a fixed bonus pool. Forbes estimated that the top ten players earned $333 million combined over that period. That total describes one year of earnings for a group; it is not their combined wealth or a historical ranking.
Annual income can fluctuate with performance, sponsorships, appearances, and business activity. A player with a high-earning year is not necessarily wealthier than a retired player whose assets have appreciated over decades. Turning an earnings list into a net-worth ranking would conflate different measures.

Why a 22-player order cannot be verified from these figures
A defensible 22-person ranking would need a dated net-worth estimate for each player, sourced consistently enough to compare, alongside clear treatment of private assets, liabilities, taxes, and valuation uncertainty. The available figures do not provide that set. They contain selected net-worth estimates, annual earnings data, and dated career prize money—three distinct datasets.
That limitation matters across eras and across the men’s and women’s games. A list that mixes an estimate for one player, a career-prize-money total for another, and a one-year earnings figure for a third would look precise while measuring unlike things. Williams’ estimate and investment activity belong in the wealth discussion, but the available evidence does not establish a complete, comparable list of 22 players or their order.

How to read tennis-wealth rankings
- Check whether the figure is net worth, annual earnings, or career prize money.
- Look for the estimate’s publisher and date; wealth estimates can change as assets and valuations change.
- Distinguish pretax earnings from wealth. Career income is not the same as money retained after taxes, costs, and spending.
- Look for business interests and investments as well as tennis income; private assets and liabilities may not be fully visible.
- Treat a precise rank cautiously when the list does not explain how its estimates were made comparable.
