Why did Trump and Musk fall out?
June 2025: A policy dispute becomes a public feud
Musk criticized Trump’s major spending and tax legislation, and the disagreement escalated into attacks on X and Truth Social. Trump raised potential consequences involving Musk’s companies and government support; Musk responded with accusations of his own. Did Trump and Musk reconcile?
September 21, 2025: They speak at Charlie Kirk’s memorial
Trump and Musk shook hands and spoke briefly at Charlie Kirk’s memorial in Glendale, Arizona. December 16, 2025: Reporting describes a thaw
Axios reported that Musk was backing Republican campaigns for the 2026 midterms, that the relationship had thawed and that the two spoke occasionally. Representatives declined to comment. This is evidence of renewed political activity and some contact, not proof that the earlier partnership or personal closeness had returned.Axios
That December report is the latest relationship update established here. It does not verify what happened between them after that date or establish their relationship as of October 2026.
