777 Partners Investor Indicted: What the Boeing 737-8 Order Does—and Doesn’t—Show

The FBI announced fraud charges against 777 Partners cofounder Joshua Wander in 2025. Boeing’s separate 2021 aircraft-order announcement does not show the order was fraudulent or part of the charges.

777 Partners cofounder Joshua Wander was indicted in October 2025 on federal wire-fraud and securities-fraud charges tied to an alleged scheme against the firm’s private lenders and investors. Boeing had announced a 777 Partners agreement to add 24 737-8 aircraft, with purchase rights for 60 more, in 2021. The available announcements do not establish that the aircraft order itself was fraudulent or that it was a charged act.

What was the 777 Partners investor indicted for?

On October 16, 2025, the FBI’s New York Field Office announced that Joshua Wander, cofounder of investment firm 777 Partners, had been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit securities fraud, and securities fraud. The FBI said the alleged victims were 777 Partners’ private lenders and investors and that the alleged scheme targeted more than $500 million.

Those are allegations in a government announcement, not findings that Wander committed fraud. An indictment is a formal accusation; it does not establish guilt.

Alleged use of restricted funds and collateral

According to the FBI, 777 Partners initially focused on financing structured settlements, using credit facilities secured by future settlement payments and cash. Prosecutors alleged that beginning in 2018, Wander directed capital toward businesses with less certain cash flows, including streaming platforms, airlines, and professional sports teams, while restricted lender funds went toward acquisitions and expenses.

The FBI also said prosecutors alleged that more than $350 million in assets were pledged as collateral even though 777 Partners either did not own the assets or had already pledged them elsewhere. The announcement further alleged that employees digitally altered bank statements to show cash the firm did not have.

Alleged statements to outside investors

The FBI said that in 2021 and 2022 Wander solicited more than $100 million in outside investments while misrepresenting the firm’s finances. The amounts describe allegations in the FBI’s October 2025 announcement; they should not be read as adjudicated losses or proven misappropriation.

The FBI also reported that former CFO Damien Alfalla pleaded guilty to an information on October 14, 2025, in connection with his participation in the scheme and was cooperating with the government when the announcement was issued. His plea does not resolve Wander’s charges.

Did 777 Partners really order Boeing 737 MAX planes?

Boeing announced on March 12, 2021, that 777 Partners had agreed to add 24 Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its aviation portfolio and had purchase rights for an additional 60. The 737-8 is part of Boeing’s 737 MAX family.

The announcement establishes that Boeing publicized an agreement and purchase rights. It does not establish that all 24 aircraft were delivered, that 777 Partners exercised the additional rights, or that the order was fraudulent. An order announcement is not proof of delivery or proof of wrongdoing.

Were the aircraft purchases part of the fraud charges?

The public FBI summary describes alleged fraud involving lenders, investors, restricted funds, collateral, bank statements, and representations about 777 Partners’ finances. It does not identify the Boeing aircraft order as a fraudulent purchase or a specific charged act. The aircraft order and the later fraud allegations are documented separately; the available announcements do not establish a link between them.

Is this the same case as Boeing’s 737 MAX fraud case?

No. The Wander indictment concerns alleged financial fraud involving 777 Partners and its lenders and investors. The separate U.S. prosecution of The Boeing Company concerned an alleged conspiracy to defraud the United States by obstructing the FAA’s Aircraft Evaluation Group in its assessment of the 737 MAX’s Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS).

Issue Wander and 777 Partners Boeing prosecution
Defendant Joshua Wander, a 777 Partners cofounder, according to the FBI’s October 16, 2025 announcement. The Boeing Company, according to the DOJ case page.
Alleged affected party 777 Partners’ private lenders and investors, according to the FBI. The U.S. government, through the FAA Aircraft Evaluation Group, according to the DOJ case page.
Conduct described Alleged restricted-fund use, collateral pledges, altered bank statements, and financial misrepresentations. An alleged effort to obstruct FAA evaluation of MCAS.
Aircraft-order connection Boeing separately announced a 2021 agreement for 24 737-8 aircraft and rights for 60 more; the FBI announcement does not establish that the order was fraudulent. The DOJ case concerns FAA evaluation of the 737 MAX; it is not the Wander indictment.
Procedural information cited here The FBI announced Wander’s indictment in October 2025; that announcement alone does not establish the later outcome of his case. The DOJ case page reports an amended Fifth Circuit opinion on May 22, 2026, and a mandate issued June 18, 2026.

The two matters should not be merged simply because both mention the 737 MAX. They involve different defendants, alleged conduct, and affected parties.

What the announcements establish—and what they don’t

The FBI announcement is the source for the charges and the government’s account of the alleged financial scheme. Boeing’s March 2021 announcement is the source for the 24-aircraft agreement and 60 additional purchase rights. The DOJ case page describes the separate Boeing prosecution. Together, these materials document an aircraft-order announcement and separate criminal proceedings; they do not establish that the order was completed or that it formed part of the Wander charges.
