7 of the Richest Sheikhs in the World? What the Estimates Actually Show

The old seven-sheikh video is not a current, verifiable ranking. Recent estimates cover royal families, not individual rulers’ personal fortunes.

There is no reliable, current ranking of the seven richest individual sheikhs. The old video titled “7 Of The Richest Sheikhs In The World” is about 11 years old, and the available indexed description substantiates only three names. More recent figures rank royal families—not individual rulers—and cannot be treated as their personal net worth.

That distinction matters: royal wealth estimates can combine private assets, extended-family holdings, and assets associated with a state. The figures below are useful context, but they do not establish who the seven richest sheikhs are.

What can be verified about the original seven-person list?

The video’s indexed description names Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It also refers to a 2010 Forbes report for one estimate. The available record does not substantiate the other four entries or establish a complete, consistently measured list.

The video is historical, not a current ranking. Its estimates should not be repeated as present-day net worth figures. The indexed record also does not establish a comparable personal-wealth methodology for the three named sheikhs. View the video listing.

Why royal wealth is difficult to rank

Forbes warned in its 2007 royal-wealth ranking that “the wealth of the royals is often shared with extended families and can represent money that is controlled by them in trust for their nation or territory.” That makes a family fortune different from a ruler’s personal assets: a family-level estimate does not show which member owns, controls, or can spend the assets.

Bloomberg made the same core measurement point in its 2022 account of the Al Nahyan family, noting that “lines separating family and state are often blurred.” Its estimate drew on complex holdings, including regulatory filings, real-estate records, and corporate disclosures, but Bloomberg cautioned that family and state assets may overlap. Forbes’s explanation of royal wealth estimates and Bloomberg’s 2022 account of the Al Nahyan fortune describe why these totals are not straightforward personal net-worth calculations.

What recent family-level estimates say

Bloomberg’s 2025 ranking gives estimates for three royal families. These are family estimates, not personal net worth figures for individual sheikhs or emirs.

Family Bloomberg estimate What the figure represents
Al Nahyan $335.9 billion Estimated family wealth in Bloomberg’s 2025 ranking; not an individual ruler’s net worth.
Al Saud $213.6 billion Estimated family wealth in Bloomberg’s 2025 ranking; not an individual ruler’s net worth.
Al Thani $199.5 billion Estimated family wealth in Bloomberg’s 2025 ranking; not an individual ruler’s net worth.

Bloomberg describes the families’ overlapping government and private-sector roles. The estimates are therefore not a like-for-like ranking of the personal fortunes of Sheikh Mansour, Sheikh Tamim, Sheikh Mohammed, or other individual rulers. See Bloomberg’s 2025 richest-families ranking.

What is known about Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s wealth?

Forbes’s 2004 profile of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The sources of that wealth are a little fuzzy.” The profile also described the boundary between public finances and private wealth as unclear. That is a reason to avoid presenting a precise personal fortune as established fact—not evidence that a family-level or state-associated figure belongs to him personally. Read Forbes’s 2004 profile.

How to read a “richest sheikhs” ranking

  • Check the date: an older video or list is not a current ranking.
  • Check the subject: “family wealth” is not the same as one person’s net worth.
  • Check what assets are counted: family holdings, trusts, and state-linked assets may overlap.
  • Check the method: an estimate based on records and disclosures still involves uncertainty, especially where ownership and control are complex.

On those terms, the original video’s full seven-person ranking cannot be verified from its available indexed description, and the newer published estimates do not supply a replacement ranking of seven individual sheikhs.
