The CBI’s appeal was admitted by the Delhi High Court in 2024; in February 2025, the agency said it was ready for a hearing. The sources cited here do not establish a later final decision or a complete account of what every participant is doing today.
What happened in the 2G spectrum case?
The criminal case concerned the Department of Telecommunications’ 2007–08 process for allocating telecom licences and spectrum. The court filing describes 122 licences across 22 service areas and 575 applications. It frames disputes around how the first-come-first-served process was applied and how earlier entry-fee benchmarks were used. Those are descriptions of the case and its allegations, not findings that every alleged act was proved at trial. The court filing reproduced by India Today provides that procedural account.
The shorthand “2G spectrum case” can refer to different proceedings arising from the same controversy. Keeping those proceedings separate is essential: a public-law ruling about allocation does not by itself determine whether an individual committed a crime.

The Supreme Court judgment discusses submissions and questions about pricing, allocation and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. A litigant’s contention recorded in a judgment is not automatically a judicial finding that the person conspired or committed an offence. The Supreme Court judgment is the primary source for that legal context.

What role did the major players play?
A. Raja
Raja was Union Communications and Information Technology Minister during the period covered by the allegations. The court filing describes allegations concerning the Department of Telecommunications’ handling of licences and spectrum. He was among those acquitted in 2017; the CBI later challenged that acquittal. Neither his official role nor the filing’s allegations establish criminal guilt.
Siddhartha Behura and R. K. Chandolia
The filing identifies Behura as Telecom Secretary and Chandolia as Raja’s private secretary during the relevant period, and names both among the accused. These are contextual descriptions of their government roles, not proof of wrongdoing.

P. Chidambaram
Chidambaram was Finance Minister. The Supreme Court record discusses arguments and questions raised about his role in pricing, allocation and company share transactions. Those matters must be described as contested submissions considered in the public-law litigation, not as a finding that he committed an offence.
Kanimozhi
Kanimozhi was among the accused acquitted by the special CBI court in December 2017. The CBI’s appeal challenges the acquittals, including hers. The sources cited here do not establish a complete, current account of her activities.

The court filing discusses the companies in its account of alleged preferential allocation. That is the prosecution-side case context, not a standalone finding of criminal liability. The sources cited here do not establish the companies’ present business status or the current activities of their principals.
CBI and the Delhi High Court
The CBI prosecuted the criminal case and appealed the acquittals. The High Court’s March 2024 decision allowed the appeal to proceed to closer merits review; it was not a verdict against the accused. In the order as reported by The Indian Express, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma wrote, “The evidence has to be weighed and not counted.” He also said there was “a prima facie case which requires deeper examination and re-appreciation/re-appraisal of entire evidence.” These comments explain the appeal-stage threshold, not a final finding of guilt.

What are the major players up to now?
The latest procedural update established by the cited sources is from 15 February 2025. ETTelecom, reporting PTI, said the CBI told the Delhi High Court that its appeal was “ripe for hearing” and sought a schedule; the report said the court posted the matter to 18 March. That is the agency’s position and a reported listing, not a final appellate judgment. Read the February 2025 hearing report.
These sources do not confirm what happened after that reported listing, and they do not provide a reliable, complete roster of the political, official and corporate participants’ current roles as of 7 October 2026. It would therefore be misleading to turn their historical positions into claims about what they are doing today. The grounded update is procedural: the cited material records the acquittals, the appeal’s admission and the CBI’s February 2025 request for hearing dates, but no later final outcome.
