On Nov. 4, 2025, soybean futures fell after a report of Chinese purchases from Brazil, AGCO’s third-quarter results beat cited expectations but came with a cautious outlook, and red flag warnings covered parts of central Nebraska. These are dated developments reported by Agriculture.com that day—not current market prices, company guidance or weather alerts.
Why did soybean futures fall on Nov. 4, 2025?
Agriculture.com reported that soybean futures dropped in overnight trading after Reuters, citing three traders familiar with the transaction, reported that China had bought 10 cargoes of soybeans from Brazil. The reported purchase came despite a U.S.–China agreement the previous week calling for China to buy at least 12 million metric tons of U.S. soybeans in the final two months of 2025 and at least 25 million metric tons in each of the next three years.
The roundup said Brazilian soybeans were reportedly cheaper than U.S. supplies. It also noted that an ongoing U.S. government shutdown had halted most USDA weekly reports, limiting visibility into U.S. sales. These were the explanations and circumstances reported on Nov. 4, not a claim that one factor alone caused the market move.
Overnight prices reported that day
| Contract or commodity | Reported move | Reported price |
|---|---|---|
| November soybeans | Down 12½¢ | $11.21¾ per bushel |
| Soy meal | Down $2.10 | $318.70 per short ton |
| Soybean oil | Down 0.35¢ | 49.49¢ per pound |
| December corn | Down 3¼¢ | $4.31 per bushel |
| December wheat | Up 1¼¢ | $5.44¾ per bushel |
| Kansas City wheat | Down 1¼¢ | $5.30½ per bushel |

What did AGCO report for its third quarter?
AGCO reported third-quarter 2025 sales of $2.476 billion and adjusted earnings of $1.35 per share. Agriculture.com compared those results with cited trade expectations of $2.461 billion in sales and $1.22 per share in adjusted earnings. Despite the reported beat, the roundup said the results did little to improve negative sentiment across the agricultural-equipment industry.
Performance differed by region
Agriculture.com reported that AGCO’s North American agricultural segment sales fell 32% year over year in the third quarter amid weak sales and slack demand. High-horsepower tractors, sprayers and combines were among the areas with falling sales. By contrast, European sales rose 20% year over year. The article described Europe and the Middle East as the company’s strongest asset heading into 2026.

In the earnings-report quotation reproduced by Agriculture.com, AGCO said: “This reflects a recovery in production levels and corresponding sales following extended plant downtime last year.” The roundup connected that statement to the increase in European sales, which it said was largest in high-horsepower and mid-range tractors.
What was the outlook?
Citing an Oppenheimer equity research report, Agriculture.com described AGCO’s outlook as difficult for the end of 2025 and flat for 2026. The report’s cited balance of factors included growth in livestock and dairy and government support on one side, and trade concerns, high borrowing costs and high input costs on the other. This is the outlook as reported in the Nov. 4 roundup, not current company guidance.
