There is no single, consistently documented official ranking of the 15 highest-paid television actors of all time. The answer depends on what “highest-paid” means: pay for one episode, estimated earnings in a particular year, or the combined payroll of a cast. On the clearest per-episode record in the sources cited here, Ray Romano holds the Guinness World Records mark at $1.94 million per episode for the final series of Everybody Loves Raymond. That is a record for an episode fee—not a ranking of lifetime income.
Who holds the record for the highest TV acting pay per episode?
Guinness World Records names Ray Romano as the highest-paid TV actor per episode, reporting $1.94 million per episode for the ninth and final series of Everybody Loves Raymond. That series aired in the United States from September 20, 2004, to May 16, 2005. The figure is a per-episode record for that series, not a total for Romano’s career or a comparison of actors’ lifetime earnings. Guinness World Records: Highest paid TV actor per episode

How does the Friends cast compare?
Guinness reports that Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courteney Cox earned approximately $1 million each per episode for the final series of Friends, which ended in May 2004. The same record page notes that the cast received a percentage of rerun revenue. That participation is a separate income stream; it should not be folded into the reported episode fee or treated as a comparable per-episode amount. Why annual earnings lists do not produce an all-time salary ranking
Forbes’ highest-paid TV lists estimate earnings over defined periods. Their totals can include income beyond acting fees, such as endorsements, licensing, and producing. They answer who earned the most during a stated period under the list’s methodology, not who received the biggest television salary per episode or accumulated the most over a career.

- 2013: Forbes named Sofia Vergara the highest-paid TV actor overall and Ashton Kutcher the highest-paid male TV actor for the period covered. Vergara’s reported income included endorsement and licensing activity alongside television work, so the overall total is not her Modern Family salary. Forbes: Sofia Vergara Tops FORBES’ List Of The Highest-Paid TV Actors
- 2015: Forbes reported that 11 of the 15 stars on that year’s highest-paid television list came from sitcoms. This describes that list and year; it is not a general rule about television pay. Forbes: The World’s Highest-Paid TV Actors, 2015
- 2016: TIME’s account of Forbes’ list reported nearly $43 million in earnings for Sofia Vergara over the past year, with endorsements and licensing among the important sources. This is a period-specific earnings estimate, not an episode wage. TIME: Sofia Vergara Tops the List of the World’s Highest-Paid TV Actresses for the Fifth Year in a Row
- 2018: TIME reported Forbes estimates of $26.5 million for Jim Parsons and $25 million for Johnny Galecki over the past year. Parsons’ total also reflected endorsements and executive-producer work on Young Sheldon. These are mixed-source annual estimates, not per-episode salaries. What does the Big Bang Theory cast record measure?
Guinness World Records identified The Big Bang Theory stars as the highest-paid television cast as of January 2017, reporting that the combined earnings of five actors pushed the show’s wage bill beyond $100 million. This is a cast-level comparison, not an individual ranking: a combined payroll cannot establish which actor earned the most over a career. Guinness World Records: Highest-paid television cast
Why Dwayne Johnson’s $270 million figure is not a TV salary
Guinness records Dwayne Johnson’s estimated $270 million in earnings for the year ending December 31, 2021, citing Forbes’ 2022 Highest-Paid Entertainers list. The Guinness category is highest annual earnings for an actor in a current series. It is an annual earnings record, not evidence that Johnson earned $270 million from television acting alone or received that amount as a TV salary. Can these records establish the 15 highest-paid TV actors of all time?
No—not as a defensible, consistent all-time top 15. The documented figures use different units and scopes: one episode, a defined year, or five actors’ combined earnings. They also do not consistently account for residuals, rerun participation, endorsements, producing income, inflation, or career length. Ordering those figures together would confuse unlike measures.
A meaningful ranking would first need to choose one measure and apply it consistently—for example, nominal episode fees, inflation-adjusted episode fees, or annual earnings within the same defined periods. The available records do not supply comparable data for 15 actors under one such method, and they do not establish cumulative career totals. In particular, multiplying a reported episode fee by an assumed episode count would not account for contract terms, bonuses, residuals, or the value of money over time.

The most supportable answer is therefore metric-specific: Romano holds the cited per-episode record; annual lists identify top earners for particular periods and may include non-acting income; and the Big Bang Theory record concerns combined cast earnings. None amounts to an official all-time top-15 ranking.
