The U.S. 2024 lineup includes materially different EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse configurations, so compare like with like—and base your budget on that specific car rather than a generic Mustang estimate.
1. Choose the engine and trim for how you will use the car
Ford’s preliminary U.S. specification sheet lists a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder for EcoBoost models and a 5.0-liter V8 for GT and Dark Horse models. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance comparisons. Decide which configuration fits your intended use and budget, then verify the trim from the VIN, original window sticker, and vehicle.
Do not assume that two cars with the same model year have the same equipment or ownership costs. Trim, options, mileage, condition, and history all affect how useful a price comparison is.
2. Decide between a fastback and convertible
Ford’s U.S. sheet distinguishes coupe/fastback and convertible offerings where available. Check the actual body style and the equipment fitted to that car; do not assume a package or option applies identically across body styles. For a convertible, inspect the roof’s operation and condition as part of evaluating the specific used car.

3. Compare the exact transmission
Ford lists a six-speed manual and a 10-speed automatic, with availability depending on model. The Dark Horse specification includes a Tremec TR-3160 six-speed manual. Confirm the transmission by checking the car and its original equipment details rather than relying on a listing headline.
Choose based on the driving experience and use you want, and test the individual car for smooth, consistent operation. A transmission choice can also affect which otherwise comparable listings are relevant to your budget.

4. Verify performance packages and equipment
Performance equipment varies by trim and configuration. Ford’s announcement describes Performance Pack items including a Torsen limited-slip differential and larger brakes, with MagneRide available on some performance-package configurations. Ford lists MagneRide dampers as standard on Dark Horse. Confirm which equipment is actually installed on the specific car; package names alone are not enough to establish every component.
5. Match the VIN, window sticker, and car
Before comparing prices or arranging a purchase, make sure the vehicle identity and configuration agree across the car, its VIN, and its original window sticker or other reliable equipment records. Check that the trim, body style, engine, transmission, and options in the listing match what is present. Resolve discrepancies before treating the car as equivalent to other listings.

6. Check the VIN for open recalls
Recall notices cover specified vehicles, not every 2024 Mustang. Use the NHTSA recall lookup to check the individual VIN. A notice or model-year match alone does not establish that a particular car is affected or that its repair remains open.
7. Ask for recall-repair records
Ford’s notices describe three relevant campaigns involving some 2024 Mustangs:

- NHTSA recall 24V220: a low-pressure fuel supply line may be cut or damaged, potentially allowing fuel to leak in the engine compartment.
- NHTSA recall 24V634: some fuel injectors may lack an O-ring support disc; Ford’s notice describes possible fuel leakage and fire risk and directs owners of affected vehicles to arrange dealer repair.
- NHTSA recall 24V802: certain instrument-panel cluster screens may fail to illuminate, leaving critical information unavailable on the screen.
For a car covered by a campaign, ask for documentation showing whether the remedy was completed. Confirm the current VIN-specific status with the lookup and a Ford dealer; the notices do not provide a prevalence rate or determine the status of an individual car.

Ford’s 2024 pricing and incentives page reflects offers tied to dates, participating dealers, and ZIP code; it is not a current used-car valuation. For a useful comparison, look at local cars with matching trim, body style, transmission, options, mileage, condition, and title history. A GT should not be priced against an EcoBoost as if they were the same configuration.

9. Build a budget around the specific car
A universal current used price, insurance premium, maintenance estimate, or real-world fuel expense is not established by the cited sources. Get an insurance quote using the vehicle and driver details, and verify fuel-economy data for the exact configuration before making an ownership-cost estimate. Ford’s technical sheet documents configuration differences, but it is not a fuel-cost estimate or a long-term reliability verdict.
Inspect the individual car and review its service, title, and accident history. The recall notices identify specific safety campaigns; their existence by itself does not establish a model-wide reliability conclusion.
10. Confirm accessory fitment, including floor mats
If the car needs replacement mats, match the product to the exact model year and body style and confirm fitment before buying. Ford inventory results list Mustang-branded mats, but listing availability and exact fitment can vary. The same principle applies to replacement tires: verify the car’s wheel and tire size and the intended seasonal use before selecting a set.
