The highest documented U.S. boxing gate is Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao: $72,198,500 in nominal ticket receipts in 2015, according to figures attributed to the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The next-largest documented gate is Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor at $55,414,865.79 in 2017. In September 2025, Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Álvarez generated a reported $47.23 million gate, making it the third-largest in boxing history and the record for Las Vegas. A complete, current all-U.S. top ten is not established by the available reporting, so the ranking below identifies its scope rather than presenting an outdated Las Vegas list as a national one.
What counts as a boxing gate?
A gate is the gross revenue from tickets sold at the venue. It is not the same as attendance, pay-per-view revenue, broadcast income, or a fighter’s purse. Gate figures are usually nominal dollars as reported for the event; they are not automatically adjusted for inflation.
Those distinctions matter: a fight with fewer spectators can produce a larger gate if its tickets cost more. A fair comparison should identify the revenue measure, geographic scope, and whether a figure reflects ticket sales alone or includes other receipts.
The largest documented U.S. gates
The following are the ten entries in a Las Vegas table attributed to the Nevada State Athletic Commission and published before the September 2025 Crawford–Álvarez fight. They are nominal reported gates, not inflation-adjusted figures. This is a historical Las Vegas reference list, not a current all-U.S. ranking.

The reported numbers show why gate rank does not simply measure crowd size: ESPN reported 16,219 tickets sold for Mayweather–Pacquiao, 13,094 for Mayweather–McGregor, 17,318 for Canelo–Golovkin I, and 16,146 for Mayweather–Álvarez. How the 2025 Crawford–Álvarez fight changed the list
On September 13, 2025, Crawford–Álvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Nevada produced a reported $47.23 million gate and announced attendance of 70,482, according to the Associated Press. The AP described it as the Las Vegas gate and attendance record; contemporary coverage also placed its gate third in boxing history, behind Mayweather–Pacquiao and Mayweather–McGregor. That puts it above Canelo–Golovkin I, which older Las Vegas lists had placed third. Associated Press report on Crawford–Álvarez Field Level Media report

The 2025 report establishes the event’s place among the leading gates, but it does not supply a complete current ranking of the ten biggest gates across every U.S. venue. Consequently, the older ten-event table should not be read as a current national top ten, and missing national positions should not be filled with attendance figures or estimates.
Biggest gate is not the same as biggest crowd
Guinness World Records lists Tony Zale vs. Billy Pryor, held at Juneau Park in Milwaukee on August 16, 1941, as the largest attendance at a boxing match: 135,132 people. That is an attendance record, not a gate-revenue record. Guinness notes that records may not be published online immediately. Guinness World Records attendance record

The WBC’s 2023 centennial article on Jack Dempsey vs. Luis Firpo at the Polo Grounds says more than 88,000 attended and another 25,000 clamored to get in. That is a retrospective account, not a certified paid-attendance total or a gate figure. WBC centennial article
For Las Vegas, the AP reported that Crawford–Álvarez’s announced 70,482 attendance surpassed the previous fight attendance record there: 29,214 at Larry Holmes vs. Gerry Cooney in 1982 at a temporary Caesars Palace outdoor venue. The comparison is about attendance at the venue, not ticket revenue.

Why older gate figures can be hard to compare
Historical reporting may use “receipts” to mean more than tickets sold at the venue. In a 1971 retrospective, TIME noted that some totals from 1955 onward included radio and closed-circuit television coverage receipts. Those broader totals are not directly comparable to a modern live gate unless the accounting basis is known. TIME’s 1971 retrospective

- Metric: venue ticket revenue, rather than attendance, broadcast receipts, or purses.
- Scope: Las Vegas, another venue or city, or all U.S. events.
- Ticket basis: tickets sold versus total attendance, which can include people not counted as paid ticket buyers.
- Accounting: whether the number includes only live ticket sales or also radio, closed-circuit, or other revenue.
- Dollar basis: nominal reported dollars or an explicitly calculated inflation-adjusted amount.
The strongest current conclusion is that Mayweather–Pacquiao remains the documented leader, Mayweather–McGregor is second, and Crawford–Álvarez is third by reported gate. The sources cited here do not establish a complete all-time top ten across all U.S. venues.
