The Amazon Prime settlement includes $1.5 billion for consumer refunds, but that is not a guaranteed $1.5 billion divided equally among subscribers. To qualify, you must meet the FTC’s U.S. customer, enrollment or cancellation, and Prime-benefit-use criteria. Eligible consumers do not need to file a claim; Amazon sends payments automatically by check, PayPal or Venmo.
What the $1.5 billion Amazon Prime settlement covers
The $1.5 billion is the consumer-redress portion of a $2.5 billion settlement between Amazon and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The other $1 billion is a civil penalty. The settlement resolved FTC allegations that Amazon enrolled consumers in Prime without their consent and made cancellation difficult. The figures describe the settlement as a whole, not an individual refund amount. FTC announcement

Who may qualify for an Amazon Prime refund?
According to the FTC’s current refund guidance, you must meet all three conditions below:
- You were an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
- Between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, you either enrolled through one of the challenged enrollment flows or tried and failed to cancel using Amazon’s online cancellation flow.
- You used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrolling.
The challenged enrollment flows were the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single-page checkout and Prime Video enrollment flow. Prime benefits can include Prime Music and Prime Video offerings included with a membership. See the FTC’s current eligibility and refund page for details.

Do you need to file a claim?
No. Under the revised automatic-payment process, eligible consumers do not need to submit a claim, respond to a notice or complete a form. Amazon administers the refunds; the FTC says it is not contacting consumers about them. A public guide cannot verify an individual’s eligibility or payment status in Amazon’s records.

How much could an eligible consumer receive?
The revised maximum is $200 per eligible consumer in total. Earlier payments were capped at $51; a qualifying consumer may receive an additional amount of up to $149, subject to the order’s conditions and available funds. The $200 is a cap, not a promised payment. The revised order
By September 2026, Amazon had issued more than $845 million in redress payments, according to the FTC. “Issued” does not mean that consumers had accepted or deposited that amount. FTC announcement

When and how will Amazon send the refund?
The FTC says eligible refunds will be sent by April 2027. The expanded automatic phase for eligible consumers who used 11–20 Prime benefits was scheduled to begin October 1, 2026. If accepted payments remain below the threshold set in the order, the order provides for pro rata payments of up to $149 beginning by the end of April 2027. Any additional amount remains subject to the $200 total cap. These are program deadlines and conditions, not a way to determine an individual payment date.
Payments are sent by mailed check or electronically through PayPal or Venmo. If you receive a payment, check its issue date: the FTC says you have 60 days from that date to accept it before it expires. Use the instructions accompanying the payment and contact the administrator promptly if you have questions.

How to check payment questions safely

The FTC says it is not contacting consumers about this refund, and neither the FTC nor Amazon will ask you to pay money to receive one. Treat any request for an upfront fee, offer of special access, or unsolicited guarantee that you qualify as a warning sign. Do not share payment or account details in response to an unexpected call, text or email. Report suspected fraud at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
