Jeff Bezos’s return to a CEO role is at AI venture Prometheus, not at Amazon. He is a co-founder and co-CEO alongside Vik Bajaj; at Amazon, Bezos remains Executive Chair, while Andrew Jassy is President and CEO.
Which company is Bezos leading?
The venture was introduced in November 2025 as Project Prometheus. Ars Technica reported on November 17 that Bezos would serve as co-CEO, citing a New York Times report based on three people familiar with the company. Amazon’s April 2026 proxy statement later described Bezos as a co-CEO of Project Prometheus, providing subsequent confirmation in a corporate document. The venture is also referred to as Prometheus in June 2026 coverage.
Vik Bajaj is the other co-founder and co-CEO. Ars described Bajaj as a scientist with a background in chemistry and physics who had worked with Google X, Verily, and Foresite Labs. A June 2026 CNBC interview transcript likewise identifies Bezos and Bajaj as Prometheus co-founders and co-CEOs.
What does Prometheus plan to do?
Prometheus is focused on applying artificial intelligence to the physical economy: work involved in designing, engineering, and manufacturing physical goods. The November 2025 launch coverage described applications in research, engineering, and manufacturing. In June 2026, Axios characterized the focus as industrial AI and cited examples such as jet engines, medical devices, and consumer electronics.

Those examples describe the field Prometheus is targeting, not confirmed products or deployments. The cited coverage does not establish a public product catalog, named customer list, commercial terms, or record of systems already in use. It therefore does not support claims that Prometheus software or AI-designed goods are available to consumers.
How is this different from Bezos’s Amazon role?
Bezos’s new CEO title applies to Prometheus only. Amazon’s 2025 annual report lists him as Executive Chair, a position he has held since July 2021, and identifies Andrew Jassy as Amazon’s President and CEO. The change is not a return to running Amazon day to day.

What has been reported about Prometheus’s funding?
Funding headlines refer to separate rounds at different dates, and should not be treated as audited financial statements or interchangeable measures of the company’s finances.
