Short answer: CPT Markets UK should not be judged by the protections advertised by every company using the CPT Markets name. The key question is which legal entity will hold your account. A genuine UK broker must appear on the FCA Register under its exact legal name and reference number. If you are being directed to an offshore CPT Markets website, or contacted by an unauthorised “account manager,” the FCA protections associated with a UK firm may not apply.
Before depositing, verify the firm directly through the FCA Register, check the website and contact details against the register, and confirm that the account agreement names the FCA-authorised company—not a separate offshore affiliate.
What is CPT Markets UK?
CPT Markets is a forex and CFD brand that has been associated with more than one legal entity and jurisdiction. That distinction matters more than the brand name. A broker can market itself as “CPT Markets” while your contract is with a company incorporated outside the United Kingdom.
CPT Markets UK Limited has historically been presented as the UK-regulated entity, with an FCA reference number commonly listed as 606110. Regulatory status can change, however, and broker websites, comparison pages and search advertisements are not authoritative. Use the FCA Register to confirm all of the following before opening an account:

- As a day trader, you can live and work anywhere in the world. You can decide when to work and when not to work.
- You only answer to yourself. That is the life of the successful day trader. Many people aspire to it, but very few succeed. Day trading is not gambling or an online poker game.
- To be successful at day trading you need the right tools and you need to be motivated, to work hard, and to persevere.
- the exact legal name is CPT Markets UK Limited;
- the firm’s status is currently authorised, rather than merely registered or appointed as an agent;
- the website domain, telephone number and email address match the register;
- the permissions include the service you intend to use, such as CFDs or rolling spot forex; and
- the client agreement identifies the same UK entity.
If any of those details do not match, stop. Clone firms often copy a real broker’s name, logo, registration number and address while substituting their own phone number or website.
Is CPT Markets UK regulated?
If you contract with the FCA-authorised UK entity, you receive a substantially stronger regulatory framework than you would with an offshore company. For retail forex and CFD clients, that normally includes limits on leverage, mandatory risk disclosures, restrictions on incentives, and negative-balance protection.
That does not make trading safe or profitable. FCA regulation controls how the firm must operate; it cannot prevent losses caused by leverage, poor execution, a weak trading strategy or market gaps.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| FCA Register status | Confirms whether the firm is authorised at the time you check. |
| Firm reference number | Helps distinguish the genuine firm from a clone. |
| Registered website and phone number | A matching name alone is not enough. |
| Legal entity in the agreement | Determines which regulator and protections apply. |
| Payment beneficiary | Money sent to an individual or unrelated company is a major warning sign. |

UK protections: what you may and may not get
A UK retail client dealing with an authorised firm should generally benefit from the FCA’s retail CFD rules. These include maximum leverage of 30:1 for major currency pairs, lower limits for other products, automatic margin close-out rules, and protection against owing more than the money in the trading account.
Client money rules may require eligible retail funds to be held separately from the firm’s own operating money. Segregation is useful, but it is not the same as a guarantee that every withdrawal will be immediate or that trading losses will be reimbursed.
Financial Services Compensation Scheme coverage is also not a blanket guarantee for investment losses. Eligibility depends on the activity, the firm’s status and the circumstances of the claim. Check the FSCS directly rather than treating “FSCS protected” as a general marketing claim.
These protections may not apply if you are onboarded by an offshore affiliate. A domain, platform or brand can look identical while the contract is with a different company.
Products and platforms
CPT Markets has been marketed as a forex and CFD provider, typically offering currency pairs alongside products such as indices, commodities and precious metals. The exact instruments, spreads, commissions and leverage depend on the entity and account type. Confirm them in the current terms before funding an account.
MetaTrader 4 is commonly associated with the brand. If a salesperson promises a particular platform, account type or trading condition, verify that promise in the official account documentation. A platform download by itself does not prove that the trading account belongs to the regulated UK company.
Pay particular attention to:
- whether spreads are fixed, variable or widened around news;
- commission charges on raw-spread accounts;
- overnight financing and currency-conversion fees;
- the broker’s rights to reject, requote or partially fill orders;
- stop-out levels and margin requirements; and
- the rules for corporate actions, expiring contracts and overnight positions.
Deposits and withdrawals
The withdrawal process is often more informative than the deposit page. A regulated broker may ask for identity documents, proof of address, source-of-funds information and confirmation that money is returned to the original funding method. Those checks are normal anti-money-laundering controls.
They are not normal:
- being told to pay a tax before your balance can be released;
- being asked for a “security deposit” to unlock a withdrawal;
- being told to deposit more money to reach VIP status;
- being instructed to send funds to a personal bank account or crypto wallet; or
- being pressured to borrow money to keep a losing position open.
A genuine withdrawal should not depend on making a new payment to the person processing it. If you receive such a demand, do not send more money. Save the emails, platform messages, bank details and transaction records, then contact your bank and report suspected fraud to the FCA and Action Fraud.

Common CPT Markets scam risks
The greatest risk may not be the regulated broker itself, but an impersonator using its identity. Be cautious if the contact began through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram or an unsolicited phone call. Other warning signs include guaranteed returns, “managed accounts” promising unusually consistent profits, urgency, pressure to install remote-access software, and requests to transfer funds in cryptocurrency.
Search results can also be misleading. A sponsored advertisement may lead to a different domain from the one recorded on the FCA Register. Type the FCA-listed web address manually, and call only the number shown there.
How to check CPT Markets UK before depositing
- Open the FCA Register yourself. Search for CPT Markets UK Limited and record the current status, reference number, permissions and listed domains.
- Compare every contact detail. Check the spelling of the domain, email suffix, phone number and office address. One mismatch is enough to pause.
- Read the account agreement. Look for the contracting entity, governing law, complaint procedure and dispute-resolution information.
- Check the payment recipient. The beneficiary should be an appropriate company connected to the documented account-opening process, not an employee or unrelated business.
- Test support before funding. Ask in writing which legal entity holds retail clients and whether negative-balance protection applies to your account.
- Start small. If you proceed, make a modest deposit and request a small withdrawal before committing more capital.
- Keep evidence. Save statements, order confirmations, withdrawal requests and all correspondence.
Advantages and disadvantages
| Potential advantages | Risks and limitations |
|---|---|
| Potential access to a UK-regulated entity | Brand and entity confusion with offshore affiliates |
| Established MetaTrader-style trading infrastructure | Forex and CFDs are leveraged, high-risk products |
| Retail rules may include leverage limits and negative-balance protection | Regulation does not protect against normal trading losses |
| Formal complaint routes may be available | Online clones and unauthorised introducers can impersonate the firm |
Verdict: scam or legitimate broker?
There is not enough basis to call every CPT Markets operation a scam simply because the brand has appeared in different jurisdictions. The defensible answer is more precise: CPT Markets UK may be legitimate when the account is opened with the currently FCA-authorised UK entity, but the brand name alone proves nothing.
The practical risk is contracting with the wrong company. If the FCA Register does not show the firm, the website does not match the register, or someone demands an additional payment before withdrawal, do not deposit. For cautious UK traders, the safest choice is to use a broker whose legal entity, FCA status, fees and withdrawal rules can all be independently verified before any money is sent.

Is CPT Markets UK authorised by the FCA?
CPT Markets UK Limited has commonly been listed as an FCA-authorised firm under reference number 606110, but you should verify its live status and permissions on the FCA Register before opening an account. Do not rely on an old review or a screenshot.
Is CPT Markets the same as CPT Markets UK?
Not necessarily. CPT Markets is a brand used in connection with entities in different jurisdictions. Your protections depend on the legal company named in your account agreement, not the logo or website design.
Does FCA regulation guarantee that I cannot lose money?
No. Regulation can provide conduct, disclosure and retail-account protections, but leveraged forex and CFD trading can still cause substantial losses. Negative-balance protection prevents losses exceeding the account balance; it does not prevent the balance from falling to zero.
What should I do if CPT Markets asks for a withdrawal fee or extra deposit?
Do not send additional money merely to release existing funds. Ask for the demand and contractual basis in writing, preserve all records, contact your bank promptly, and report suspected impersonation or fraud to the FCA and Action Fraud.

Can UK residents use an offshore CPT Markets company?
An offshore firm may accept clients subject to its local rules, but it will not provide the same protections as an FCA-authorised UK entity. Confirm the contracting company before depositing and understand the applicable complaint and compensation arrangements.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: CPT Markets UK is not automatically a scam, but the name is not enough to establish legitimacy. Verify the exact firm on the FCA Register, match its official domain and contact details, and confirm that the account agreement names the UK entity. Treat any request for an advance tax, security deposit, VIP payment or extra deposit to unlock withdrawals as a stop signal.
