The OnePlus Pad 3’s $579.99 price was a real U.S. holiday promotion on the 12GB RAM, 256GB Wi-Fi model, down from its $699.99 launch price. But that deal was reported in 2025; it is not established as available on August 16, 2026. Check the live price before buying. At roughly $579, the Pad 3 offers unusually strong hardware for the money—especially its large, high-refresh-rate display, powerful processor and fast charging—but it is not automatically a better tablet than an iPad. Apps, accessories and the devices you already own matter just as much.
Is the OnePlus Pad 3 really $579 right now?
The model behind the deal is the U.S. OnePlus Pad 3 with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, Wi-Fi and a Storm Blue finish. OnePlus announced it at $699.99. Deal coverage later reported a temporary $579.99 price, a $120 reduction—about 17% off the list price—during 2025 holiday promotions. OnePlus’ launch announcement and the reported $579 promotion establish those historical prices, not a current August 2026 offer.
Before treating $579 as your checkout price, verify the configuration and seller on the OnePlus U.S. product page or retailer listing. The available deal reports do not establish that the offer is still live, whether it is direct from OnePlus or a retailer, or whether tax, shipping, a coupon, membership or a bundle changes the final price. Do not assume the keyboard or stylus is included.
What the Pad 3 offers for the money
OnePlus equips the Pad 3 with a 13.2-inch LCD/LTPS screen, 3392 × 2400 resolution, Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The company also lists a 12,140mAh battery, charging up to 80W with a compatible charger, and eight speakers—four woofers and four tweeters. The tablet is about 5.97mm thick and weighs approximately 675g. OnePlus’ product specifications and its detailed specifications provide the figures.

A screen made for space and smooth scrolling
The 7:5, 13.2-inch display gives documents, web pages and split-screen apps more room than an 11-inch tablet. Its maximum refresh rate is 144Hz, but that rate is not guaranteed in every app: OnePlus says it depends on app compatibility and whitelisting. The company also lists Dolby Vision, HDR certification, up to 900-nit luminance and 315 pixels per inch. Its 12-bit color-depth claim needs context: the panel uses 8-bit hardware with 4-bit frame-rate control, rather than native 12-bit hardware. OnePlus’ global specifications describe those qualifications.
Flagship-class Android hardware, not a universal speed win
The Snapdragon 8 Elite, 12GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 storage make this a capable setup for demanding Android games and multitasking. OnePlus says the design includes vapor-chamber cooling, but the available specifications do not establish independent sustained-performance or gaming results. It is fair to call the Pad 3 powerful for its price; it is not fair to say it outperforms every iPad. iPad Air and iPad Pro models with Apple silicon remain serious options for demanding creative and video workflows.
Battery and charging claims need context
OnePlus advertises up to 18 hours of video playback and up to six hours of graphically intensive AAA gaming. Those are manufacturer claims, not guarantees or independent comparative tests; actual runtime depends on brightness, refresh rate, apps and other settings. The tablet supports up to 80W charging with a compatible official adapter. Confirm whether the charger is included in the particular U.S. package, and expect that other USB-C chargers may charge more slowly. Battery capacity alone cannot establish longer runtime than an iPad.

Eight speakers for movies and games
The eight-speaker arrangement is a notable piece of entertainment hardware, and the large Dolby Vision screen makes the Pad 3 appealing for video and games. Speaker count and display specifications alone do not prove that it sounds or looks better than every iPad; that would require direct comparative testing.
Where it can be a better deal than an entry-level iPad
At a genuine $579.99, the Pad 3’s strongest case is hardware value. Compared with entry-level iPads, it offers a larger screen with a higher maximum refresh rate, more RAM in this configuration, faster advertised charging, and 256GB of storage. Its wide display also provides more space for side-by-side tasks, while its processor is aimed at demanding Android workloads. These are concrete advantages for buyers who want a big entertainment or multitasking tablet, rather than proof that it is the better choice for every task.
For current iPad models and configurations, check Apple’s official iPad buying page. Model generations, storage tiers and prices change, so a comparison should be made against the exact iPad you can buy at the same time—not an old sale price or an unspecified model.

Where an iPad may be the smarter purchase
Apps and creative workflows
Android tablet apps have improved, but iPadOS still has a deeper tablet-optimized ecosystem for areas such as illustration, music production, video editing and specialized professional software. If your work depends on a particular app or established stylus workflow, confirm that it runs well on Android before choosing hardware based on specifications.
Apple-device integration and resale
For someone who already uses an iPhone, Mac or iCloud, an iPad may fit more naturally into existing workflows. Apple also has a well-established accessory ecosystem and resale market. Those advantages can matter more financially than a lower tablet sticker price, especially if you plan to keep the device for years or resell it later.

OnePlus promised the U.S. Pad 3 three Android OS updates and six years of bi-monthly security updates in its launch announcement. Six years of security updates does not mean six major Android-version upgrades. Rollout timing can also vary by region and software version. Compare the policy for the exact iPad or Samsung model you are considering rather than assuming one manufacturer leads across the board.

Budget for the setup you will actually use
The Smart Keyboard and Stylo 2 are accessories, not standard inclusions established by the launch announcement. OnePlus lists them alongside the tablet, but the available sources do not establish their current prices. Check the live accessory listings before comparing total cost. A keyboard, stylus, protective case and charger—if needed—can materially reduce the Pad 3’s price advantage. Make sure any case is specifically for the Pad 3; older OnePlus Pad generations have different dimensions.
The same calculation applies to an iPad: compare the tablet plus the keyboard or pencil you actually need, not a bare tablet against a fully equipped setup. The right comparison depends on your use. For email and video, you may not need accessories at all; for handwriting or laptop-style work, they can be central to the purchase.
How it compares with Samsung Galaxy Tabs
Samsung is the most relevant Android alternative, particularly for Galaxy phone owners or people who want DeX, Samsung’s desktop-style interface. Some Galaxy Tab models also support microSD expansion, but availability depends on the model. OnePlus’ likely appeal is its Snapdragon 8 Elite hardware, 144Hz maximum refresh rate and 80W charging; Samsung’s may be stronger if you value DeX, Galaxy integration or a model-specific feature. Check current models and prices on Samsung’s U.S. tablet page before comparing: no single Galaxy Tab model or current price is established here as a direct match.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWho should buy the OnePlus Pad 3?
- Consider it at about $579 if you want a large, high-refresh-rate Android screen, strong gaming hardware, 256GB of storage and fast charging—and the live price is confirmed.
- It is especially compelling for OnePlus phone owners. OnePlus promotes shared notifications, clipboard synchronization, app relay, screen sharing, File Dock and mobile-data sharing with compatible phones. These features are a bonus, not a universal advantage for owners of iPhones or other Android brands.
- Choose an iPad instead if you rely on an iPad-first app, use Apple devices and want their integration, prioritize creative software or resale value, or want a more compact tablet. The Pad 3’s 13.2-inch size and approximately 675g weight are worth considering for handheld use and everyday carrying.
- Consider Samsung if DeX, Galaxy phone integration or a particular Galaxy Tab feature matters more than the OnePlus hardware package, especially if you find a comparable promotion.
For a keyboard-and-stylus setup, an iPad Air may be the more useful comparison than a base iPad. The Pad 3 may deliver more screen and charging hardware for the money, while Apple’s creative apps, Pencil workflows and ecosystem can justify the higher total cost for the right user. iPad Pro is a higher tier; the claim that the Pad 3 is a better value than many iPads should not be read as a claim that it replaces an iPad Pro for professional work.
