If your Polymarket market is part of the exchange upgrade documented for April 28, 2026, Polymarket said positions in active markets would carry over and resolve normally. That did not preserve resting orders: the old order books were cleared, so orders users still wanted had to be placed again. For a migration notice about one specific market, check that market’s own rules and notice; the platform-wide upgrade notice does not establish what happens in every market-specific contract migration.
First identify what kind of change you are seeing
“Migration” can refer to different events, and their effects are not interchangeable. Polymarket’s April 2026 notice concerns a platform-wide exchange-stack upgrade. Its clarification guidance separately says that a clarification clears the order book and cancels resting orders, including when an advance clarification is announced. Neither statement, by itself, sets the treatment for every market-specific contract migration.

- Market clarification: Polymarket says a clarification clears the order book and cancels resting orders. This is a distinct process, not another name for an exchange-stack upgrade. See Polymarket’s clarification guidance.
- Notice for one market or contract: Read the market page, its rules, and the specific notice. If they do not explain your position’s status, contact Polymarket support rather than assuming the platform-wide upgrade policy applies.
For the documented April 2026 upgrade, distinguish shares from orders
Polymarket’s notice for the April 28, 2026 exchange upgrade said positions in active markets would carry over and resolve normally. Separately, it said pre-upgrade order books would be cleared. That means a carried-over position did not mean an old buy or sell order stayed live; users who still wanted an order resting after the upgrade needed to place it again.
The same notice described trading pausing for about an hour, starting around 11:00 UTC on April 28, 2026. Those were planned, historical details for that upgrade—not a schedule or downtime estimate for a later migration.

What the upgrade changed operationally
The notice described new exchange contracts, a rewritten order book, and a new collateral token, pUSD. It said most users would encounter a one-time approval flow to convert their balance to pUSD and approve the new exchange contracts. Polymarket described pUSD as a Polygon ERC-20 backed 1:1 by USDC. That backing description is not a guarantee that every deposit, withdrawal, or conversion action is fee-free; the notice says conversion fees or routing costs may apply.
Choose whether to hold or exit before resolution
If your market is still active, you can keep the position or try to sell before resolution. Selling is not an automatic close: Polymarket describes trading as peer-to-peer, so an exit depends on another trader being willing to buy. The available bids and execution price depend on the particular market and can change.

These sources do not establish the bid, order-book depth, or likelihood of a fill for your market. Check the current order book before submitting an order, and do not treat a limit price as a confirmed sale.
If the market has resolved, look for redemption
For a resolved position, Polymarket’s legacy guide directs users to Portfolio, where the position control changes from Trade to Redeem; select Redeem and confirm. What to check when the notice is market-specific
- Open the market page and read its rules and the migration or contract notice. Confirm whether the market is active, resolved, clarified, or otherwise changing.
- Check your Portfolio position separately from any open orders. A position and a resting order are different: cancellation of an order does not, by itself, tell you whether shares carried over.
- If you want to exit an active position, review current bids before using a market sell, or place a limit sell only at a price you are prepared to accept if a buyer appears.
- If the notice does not say what happens to your specific position, or the status shown in your account appears wrong, contact Polymarket support. Do not infer a market-specific outcome from the April 2026 platform-wide upgrade notice.
Developer note: API traders
Polymarket’s April 2026 upgrade notice directs developers to a v2 migration guide and says API traders need v2 endpoints and an updated client library. These requirements concern API integrations, not the ordinary interface steps for holding, selling, or redeeming a position.
