Micron sells DRAM—including high-bandwidth memory (HBM)—as well as NAND and NOR; Sandisk is centered on NAND flash storage. That gives Micron direct exposure to AI-related DRAM and HBM demand, while Sandisk’s exposure is chiefly to NAND storage markets. Both remain exposed to semiconductor supply, demand and pricing cycles, and Sandisk also depends on its manufacturing relationship with Kioxia. These differences describe their businesses, not which stock is the better investment.
What is the main difference between Micron and Sandisk?
Micron has a broader memory portfolio: DRAM, NAND and NOR products serve data-center, client PC, graphics, industrial, mobile, automotive, consumer and embedded markets. HBM is part of its DRAM offering. Sandisk describes itself as the parent company of a NAND flash data-storage business. The companies overlap in NAND, but Sandisk does not have the DRAM and HBM breadth Micron discloses in its filings.
These descriptions come from the companies’ filings: Micron’s FY2025 Form 10-K and Sandisk’s FY2026 Form 10-K. The fiscal periods differ: Micron’s year ended August 28, 2025, and Sandisk’s ended July 3, 2026.
| Comparison | Micron | Sandisk |
|---|---|---|
| Core products | DRAM, including HBM, plus NAND and NOR | NAND flash data storage |
| Relevant demand | Data center and AI memory, alongside client, mobile, automotive and other markets | NAND storage demand across data center, client, consumer and other markets |
| Prominent business exposure | Both DRAM and NAND market cycles | More concentrated exposure to NAND supply, demand and pricing |
| Manufacturing relationship | Describes its own manufacturing network and use of subcontractors for some processes | Jointly develops and manufactures flash with Kioxia through Flash Ventures |
How does AI demand affect each company?
Micron: direct DRAM and HBM exposure
AI data-center systems can require substantial memory, including HBM and other DRAM. Micron’s FY2025 Form 10-K describes growing memory needs in cloud servers supporting AI and data-centric workloads. That is the company’s own framing, not an independent forecast. Micron reported $28.58 billion in DRAM revenue for fiscal 2025; this is one product line’s revenue, not its total revenue.

In its FY2026 third-quarter filing, for the quarter ended May 28, 2026, Micron said AI-driven demand growth for memory and storage had exceeded its and the industry’s ability to increase supply, alongside improved pricing and profitability. This is a company-reported condition for that period, not a guarantee that tight supply or favorable pricing will continue. Micron FY2026 Q3 filing.
Sandisk: NAND storage exposure, not HBM
Sandisk’s NAND products can serve storage needs in data centers and other markets, but NAND storage is not interchangeable with HBM. A claim about AI demand for HBM therefore should not be read as an equivalent claim about Sandisk’s business. Its AI-related sensitivity depends on demand for NAND storage applications and on the economics of those markets.

What are the main risks for Micron and Sandisk?
Memory supply, demand and pricing cycles
Both businesses are exposed to swings in semiconductor supply and demand. Capacity additions, changes in customer inventories, product transitions and shifts in end-market demand can alter prices and profitability. Micron’s broader product mix changes the types of exposure it has; Sandisk’s concentration makes NAND supply-demand conditions especially important. Neither mix removes cyclicality.
Sandisk’s Kioxia manufacturing relationship
Sandisk describes jointly operated Flash Ventures with Kioxia for flash-memory development and manufacturing. The relationship provides a basis for joint capacity and technology work, but also makes venture terms, operational coordination, partner commitments and access to supply relevant considerations. The specifics should be assessed against Sandisk’s dated disclosures rather than assumed to be permanent or unchanged.

Manufacturing execution and global supply chains
Semiconductor manufacturing requires substantial capital and complex operations. Both companies identify risks associated with manufacturing and supply chains in their filings. A business comparison alone does not establish that one is safer: the relevant risks, scale and financial consequences can change over time.

No conclusion about relative investment value follows from Micron’s fiscal 2025 DRAM revenue of $28.58 billion. It is a product-line figure from one company and one fiscal year; comparing it with Sandisk’s total revenue would mix scopes. A stock comparison also requires current, comparable financial results, share prices, valuation assumptions and an investor’s goals. Business breadth and exposure to AI demand are not substitutes for that analysis.
