The American Airlines offer of domestic flights for 5,000 AAdvantage miles was a 2025 promotion, not a current sale. Its booking deadline was May 28, 2025, for travel in August and September 2025. To check prices now, use American’s live miles-deal search and verify your exact itinerary before booking.
What the 2025 promotion offered
American Airlines announced that more than one million Main Cabin award seats on domestic flights would be available for 5,000 AAdvantage miles one way. The airline’s figure was a promotional claim; it was not an independently audited count. Alaska and Hawaii were excluded.
The same announcement listed trans-Atlantic Main Cabin awards starting at 15,000 miles one way. The offer was for AAdvantage members, with travel in August and September 2025 and bookings due by May 28, 2025. American’s announcement said, “With no blackout dates in August and September, there’s no limit to where — and when — customers can go.” That was promotional wording about the 2025 travel period, not a promise about current award inventory.

Are American Airlines 5,000-mile flights still available?
No—not under that promotion. Its booking window and travel dates have passed. A 5,000-mile figure from the old headline should not be treated as a price available for a flight today.
How many AAdvantage miles does an award flight cost now?
American’s general award guidance lists 7,500 miles as a starting level for one-way awards on American flights originating in North America. That is a general starting point, not a quote for a particular route or date; mileage levels vary by flight, date, and availability. American lists taxes and carrier-imposed fees starting from $5.60 per person, per award, with the actual charge depending on the itinerary. - Open American’s miles-deal search and look for routes and dates that suit your trip.
- Search your exact origin, destination, travel dates, and cabin. Treat the listed itineraries and mileage totals as leads rather than guaranteed prices: American says examples were collected within the previous 24 hours and may no longer be available.
- Check the cash taxes and fees for the itinerary, then confirm the mileage requirement and total due at checkout. The AAdvantage terms say award availability can differ and awards may be withdrawn or require more miles before ticketing.
American cautions that deal availability is limited, prices can change, and taxes and fees may apply. Its AAdvantage terms and conditions also explain that mileage requirements may increase before ticketing. The live search and final checkout—not a past sale headline—are the useful checks for a current booking.
