The right gym bag depends on what you carry and how you get there. For an organized work-to-gym commute, Women’s Health names the Dagne Dover Landon Large its best overall pick; for a more compact bag with a yoga-mat strap and trolley sleeve, Shape selects the Calpak Fit. Other options suit shoe separation, backpack carry, or a simpler tote. These are attributed editorial recommendations, not the result of a verified independent test ranking across all 10 bags.
How to choose a gym bag for your routine
Start with your actual load: shoes, towel, change of clothes, toiletries, water bottle, and—if you are heading to work—a laptop. A stated capacity in liters does not prove that all those items fit comfortably together, so consider outside dimensions and whether the bag’s shape suits your locker, commute, or desk area.
- Carry format: Choose a shoulder duffel or tote for straightforward access, a convertible bag for multiple carry options, or a backpack if you want hands-free carry.
- Separate zones: A dedicated shoe or damp-gear compartment can keep used items away from clean clothes. A removable shoe bag is a different arrangement: it uses space inside the main compartment.
- Work carry: Check the laptop sleeve’s stated size and padding rather than assuming that a spacious bag protects a computer.
- Daily comfort and care: Weight, strap movement, overall footprint, and cleaning instructions can matter more than another pocket.
- Availability: Prices and product availability can change. Confirm the exact model and current listing before buying.
Shape senior editor and certified cycling instructor Summer Cartwright says, “The best gym bags have as many pockets possible, typically are made with waterproof or water-resistant materials, and are compact enough to fit into a gym locker and under your desk at work.” Shape published this guidance in an article updated May 28, 2026. Water-resistant does not mean waterproof; rely on the specific product description.
10 gym bags for women, matched to different needs
1. Dagne Dover Landon Large Neoprene Carryall — organized work-to-gym carry
Women’s Health names the Landon Large its best overall. Its 29L capacity, seven compartments, water-resistant neoprene, bottle and umbrella pockets, and detachable crossbody strap make it an organized option for a fuller daily load. The large model has a shoe bag and a padded sleeve sized for a 16-inch laptop, according to the guide.
#1 Best Overall
Women’s Health reports that machine washing can leave the neoprene creased and pilled, and that lighter colors show marks more readily. The guide recommends spot cleaning. Its “best overall” label is that publication’s editorial choice, not a shared ranking across all sources.
2. lululemon 3-in-1 Gym Duffle Bag 30L — shoe and sweaty-gear separation
Women’s Health selects this 30L duffle for yoga, while Harper’s Bazaar highlights its organization. It has separate shoe and sweaty-gear zones, a removable pouch, and a strap for carrying a yoga mat. Harper’s Bazaar lists dimensions of 18.5 × 10.6 × 7.7 inches.
Women’s Health says the long strap can bounce unless shortened. GarageGymPower’s comparison does not state a laptop sleeve and notes that the bag does not offer backpack carry. If those features matter, verify the product details before choosing it.
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
3. Calpak Fit Gym Bag — compact commute with yoga gear
Shape names the Calpak Fit its overall pick. The publication lists a 25L capacity, dimensions of 19.25 × 12.75 × 8 inches, and a weight of 1.5 lb. Its features include a shoe compartment, yoga-mat strap, trolley sleeve, and multiple pockets.
Shape notes that it has no laptop slot. Its overall dimensions are also worth checking against the space available in your gym locker or under your desk.
4. FocusGear Ultimate Gym Bag 2.0 Duffel — budget option
Shape names the FocusGear Ultimate Gym Bag 2.0 its budget pick. The article displayed a price of $28 when accessed in 2026, but that listing price can change. Check that the current listing is the same model and confirm its price and availability before purchasing.
Rank #3
5. BÉIS The Sport Duffle Backpack — convertible carry
GarageGymPower’s comparison lists this bag at 23.5L, 17.3 × 8.8 × 9.8 inches, and 2.13 lb. It has handles, a detachable crossbody strap, hidden backpack straps, a trolley sleeve, a bottle pocket, and a removable dirt bag. The hidden straps make backpack carry possible without committing to a backpack-only format.
The comparison does not state that the bag has a protected laptop sleeve. GarageGymPower says it did not pack or carry-test this model, so its details are a feature comparison rather than a hands-on performance assessment.
6. Dagne Dover Medium Landon Carryall — smaller carryall with a laptop sleeve
GarageGymPower lists the Medium Landon at 18L, 14.5 × 7.5 × 9 inches, and 2 lb 8 oz. It has a removable shoe bag and a padded sleeve for most 13-inch laptops. The smaller capacity may suit a lighter load, but the source notes that the empty bag is substantial in weight and the shoe pouch takes up interior space.
Rank #4
GarageGymPower did not carry-test this model. The Large and Medium Landon are distinct size options: compare the laptop size, capacity, and carry load you need rather than assuming their layouts are interchangeable.
7. Sweaty Betty The Nimbus Roam Tote — minimal tote carry
GarageGymPower lists this 20L tote with handles, a crossbody strap, and internal slip pockets. The comparison does not state that it has a dedicated shoe section or padded laptop sleeve. It is a simpler option if those features are not priorities, but the source did not test it hands-on.
8. NikeSkims Puffer Gym Bag — style-led work-to-gym option
Harper’s Bazaar reports multiple strap options, a spacious design, a detachable interior bag, a padded laptop pocket, and wipe-clean care. Its selection does not list a water-bottle pocket. Confirm current collaboration availability and dimensions, which are not specified here, before deciding whether it fits your commute.

9. A duffle with dedicated shoe and wet-gear zones
If keeping shoes and used workout clothes apart is your deciding factor, the lululemon 3-in-1 is the clearest match among these selections: its reported layout includes separate shoe and sweaty-gear storage. A removable shoe bag, like the one reported for the Dagne Dover Landon, offers separation too, but occupies part of the main bag’s interior rather than creating a fixed external compartment.
10. A hands-free option when the commute calls for it
For a bag that can shift between carry styles, the BÉIS Sport Duffle Backpack is the option in this list with hidden backpack straps, according to GarageGymPower. The Calpak Fit and lululemon duffle add commute-oriented features such as a trolley sleeve or yoga-mat carry, but they are not described as backpack-convertible. Choose based on how you travel with a loaded bag, not just how it looks empty.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which bag fits a work-to-gym commute?
For a laptop-and-gym-gear combination, the Dagne Dover Landon Large has the most explicit work-carry specifications in the available recommendations: Women’s Health reports a padded 16-inch laptop sleeve, bottle and umbrella pockets, and a shoe bag. The NikeSkims Puffer Gym Bag is another potential work-to-gym choice because Harper’s Bazaar reports a padded laptop pocket, but dimensions and current collaboration availability should be checked. The Calpak Fit is less suited to carrying a laptop safely because Shape says it has no laptop slot.
For commuting by transit, the BÉIS bag’s hidden backpack straps and trolley sleeve may be useful; for travel, the Calpak Fit also has a trolley sleeve. A trolley sleeve helps attach a bag to luggage, but it does not establish that the bag will fit your work setup or gym locker.

These picks come from different editorial guides with different criteria. Women’s Health describes its list as tested and reviewed by a fitness editor; Shape’s selection reflects its own editorial picks and guidance from frequent gym-goers. Harper’s Bazaar and GarageGymPower provide additional product comparisons. GarageGymPower explicitly says it did not pack, carry, wash, or durability-test the products. The sources also disagree on “best overall”: Women’s Health chooses the Dagne Dover Landon Large, while Shape chooses the Calpak Fit. That difference reflects different priorities, not a single verified winner for every routine.
