A CNBC host framed Langone’s comments as a turnaround from his earlier reluctance to vote for Trump; Langone replied, “When you made a mistake, admit it.”
What Ken Langone said about Trump
Langone made the remarks during a CNBC interview published July 15, 2025. “I am sold on Trump,” he said. He added, “I think he’s got a good shot at going down in history as one of our best presidents ever.” RealClearPolitics’ transcript excerpt and a White House summary reproduce the comments.
Why Langone said his view changed
The CNBC host characterized Langone’s position as a turnaround, saying he had not wanted to vote for Trump. That is the host’s description of Langone’s earlier reluctance, not a full account of his voting history. Langone responded, “When you made a mistake, admit it.”
Tariffs and free trade
Langone said tariffs had initially concerned him because he prefers free trade. He then credited Trump’s instincts and said some things needed fixing: “Initially, my concern was I don’t like tariffs; I like free trade. However, I think — damn it, give Trump credit. His instincts are good. Some of these things need to be fixed.” Those remarks describe Langone’s assessment; the interview excerpts do not establish the economic effects of the tariffs.
