STL’s latest company disclosures emphasize end-to-end connectivity and AI data-center infrastructure alongside optical products. HFCL combines fiber and cable with telecom and defense equipment and network solutions. The available figures do not support a fair financial winner: they cover different dates and company-wide order books rather than aligned fiber-segment results.
How the businesses differ
The useful comparison is not simply which company makes more fiber. Both operate in optical fiber and cable, while each also sells into broader telecom infrastructure markets. Their disclosed emphasis differs:
| Company | Disclosed business scope | Visible product and end-market emphasis |
|---|---|---|
| Sterlite Technologies (STL) | Optical products and broad connectivity solutions. | Telecom connectivity and a prominently featured AI data-center connectivity portfolio, including Neuralis, CONCAT pre-connectorized solutions, and US Conec-certified MMC pre-terminated solutions. STL Q1 FY27 results release |
| HFCL | Optical fiber and optical fiber cable, telecom and defense equipment, and network solutions. | A broader telecom, defense, and network portfolio alongside fiber and cable. Its FY25 results release also discussed anticipated growth in optical fiber and cable revenue during FY26; that was a forecast made in May 2025, not proof that growth was achieved. HFCL FY2024-25 annual report; HFCL FY25 results release |
STL’s Q1 FY27 release highlighted a multi-year US$1.11 billion contract, described by STL as worth more than ₹10,000 crore, to supply optical connectivity products for next-generation AI data centers. It also cited multiple hyperscaler orders worth more than US$100 million for its Neuralis portfolio and a long-haul dark-fiber high-density micro-cable order. These are company-reported wins, not independently verified forecasts of revenue recognition. The release also reported 785+ patents filed and granted; that is STL’s combined qualifier, not a count of granted patents alone. STL Q1 FY27 results release
What the reported figures do—and do not—show
STL’s latest quarter in the available disclosures is Q1 FY27, ended June 30, 2026. The company reported ₹1,910 crore in revenue, ₹397 crore in EBITDA, and an open order book of ₹18,618 crore at quarter end. These are company-wide figures, not fiber-business-only results. STL Q1 FY27 results release
#1 Best Overall

- No risk: 36 months manufacturer warranty
HFCL reported an order book of ₹10,480 crore as of June 30, 2025, in its FY2024-25 annual report. A later HFCL Q3 FY26 results release reported ₹11,125 crore as of December 31, 2025. Neither is contemporaneous with STL’s June 30, 2026 figure, and the figures describe company order books rather than an established fiber-segment comparison. An order book is not revenue: it represents orders awaiting execution and conversion, and does not by itself show how much will be recognized in a period or at what margin. HFCL FY2024-25 annual report; HFCL Q3 FY26 results release
| Disclosure | Reported figure | Date and scope |
|---|---|---|
| STL revenue | ₹1,910 crore | Q1 FY27, quarter ended June 30, 2026; company-wide. |
| STL EBITDA | ₹397 crore | Q1 FY27, quarter ended June 30, 2026; company-wide. |
| STL open order book | ₹18,618 crore | As of June 30, 2026; company-wide. |
| HFCL order book | ₹10,480 crore | As of June 30, 2025; company-wide, per FY2024-25 annual report. |
| HFCL order book | ₹11,125 crore | As of December 31, 2025; company-wide, per Q3 FY26 results release. |
Because the dates and scopes do not align, these numbers cannot establish which company has the larger order book at the same point in time, let alone which has the stronger fiber business. The available disclosures also do not provide a matched set of segment revenue, profitability, or utilization data for both companies.

HFCL’s capacity disclosures need a date and a qualifier
HFCL’s Q3 FY26 release excerpt reported optical fiber cable capacity of 30.5 million fiber-kilometres as of December 31, 2025, and described 42.3 million as planned, with completion scheduled by June 2026. The planned figure is not evidence that the expansion was completed, and capacity is not the same as actual production or utilization. HFCL Q3 FY26 results release
HFCL’s FY2024-25 annual report also discussed muted OFC demand, margin pressure from newly launched telecom products, slower customer offtake in EPC, capacity investment, and portfolio expansion efforts. It described a board-approved enhancement of intermittent bonded ribbon cable manufacturing capacity. These are management-reported conditions and plans, not proof of subsequent utilization or realized financial improvement. HFCL FY2024-25 annual report

Which company is better for a particular comparison?
For AI data-center connectivity visibility
STL’s Q1 FY27 release gives AI data-center connectivity particular prominence through Neuralis, hyperscaler orders, and the announced multi-year optical-connectivity contract. That makes STL’s recent disclosures more explicit on this theme; it does not establish that its data-center business is larger or more profitable than HFCL’s.
For breadth beyond fiber
HFCL’s disclosures make its mix of telecom and defense equipment and network solutions clear alongside optical fiber and cable. STL also presents a broad connectivity portfolio, but its recent results narrative spotlights data-center and network connectivity. Business breadth alone is not a measure of financial strength.

For an investment or performance verdict
The cited material cannot identify a better stock or a financially superior fiber operation. A fair assessment would require comparable reporting periods, consistent accounting scope, and segment-level revenue and margins, as well as evidence on order conversion and execution. STL’s Q1 FY27 figures cannot be compared directly with HFCL’s dated order-book figures to answer that question.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Bottom line for telecom-fiber readers
Both companies make optical fiber and cable. STL’s latest disclosures foreground end-to-end connectivity and AI data-center infrastructure; HFCL’s show fiber and cable within a broader telecom, defense, and network-solutions business. The dated company-wide order-book figures are useful context, not a synchronized ranking or a measure of fiber-only performance.
