Those offers have expired; they are not currently redeemable, and there is no confirmation that the chains will repeat them for a future eclipse.
What the restaurants offered
NASA identifies April 8, 2024, as the date of the total solar eclipse across North America. The restaurant promotions were limited offers associated with that event, not ongoing benefits.
| Restaurant | Reported offer | Reported conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Chili’s | Free appetizer with an entrée | Georgia Public Broadcasting reported that customers could use code APPCLIPSE. The report said it was available through the eclipse date; the promotion has expired. (Georgia Public Broadcasting) |
| Cracker Barrel | Free side of buttermilk pancakes with an entrée | Dine-in guests had to mention “Eclipse Pancakes” on April 8, 2024. The offer was available while supplies lasted, limited to one side per order, excluded taxes and gratuity, and had additional restrictions. (Cracker Barrel announcement) |
| Burger King | Buy-one-get-one burger deal | Georgia Public Broadcasting reported the promotion but did not provide enough detail to establish its full redemption terms. (Georgia Public Broadcasting) |
What “free food” meant
None of the reported offers was a free meal with no purchase. Chili’s promotion required an entrée, and Cracker Barrel’s required an entrée and dine-in; Burger King’s report described a buy-one-get-one deal. The available report does not establish further Burger King conditions, so details such as a required app, membership, or specific redemption method should not be assumed.
Cracker Barrel’s eclipse extras
In its April 4, 2024 announcement, Cracker Barrel said its retail stores sold solar eclipse glasses for the event. That is a historical availability statement, not confirmation of current inventory.

You will be amazed as the moon completely blocks the sun during Totality, which lasts but mere minutes. Soluna Glasses are what you need to safely view both of these eclipses.
The same announcement described the possible duration of totality as “up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds.” That was an upper bound, not the duration at every viewing location. Cracker Barrel also said at the time that more than two decades would pass before the next total solar eclipse visible from the United States; that was the company’s contemporaneous statement, not a current forecast. (Cracker Barrel announcement; Cracker Barrel event details)
The company’s announcement included this promotional sentence: “Cracker Barrel offers the perfect setting to witness the event with comfortable rocking chairs on the front porch, solar eclipse glasses for sale in our retail store and a free side of our delicious pancakes with our signature crispy edges that eclipse all other pancakes, in totality.”
