The final celebration was planned for June 28 at the Arsenale, a former medieval shipyard.
Before the weekend, the ceremony date and venue were not publicly clear. Early reports and speculation should not be treated as confirmation of the eventual schedule.

How much did the Venice wedding cost?
Reuters estimated the event cost at about $50 million. That figure was an estimate, not a disclosed or confirmed final budget. Reuters put the guest count at 200–250; the Associated Press had earlier reported that about 200 guests were expected. No independently verified final budget or complete guest count was established in the cited coverage.
Reuters also reported that about 1,000 people marched against the event on Saturday. These estimates come from separate reports and should not be mistaken for audited totals.

Why did people protest the wedding?
Venetian groups organized protests under the banner “No Space for Bezos.” The Associated Press described participants including housing advocates, anti-cruise-ship campaigners and university groups. Their objections connected the high-profile celebration to wealth inequality, mass tourism, housing pressures and concerns over whose needs take priority in Venice.
Activists had planned a canal action that became a march. Some said their pressure helped move the final celebration to the Arsenale. Reuters reported that the final party was planned there, but the activists’ account of why the venue was chosen remains their claim, not an independently established explanation.

What did the wedding mean for local businesses?
Responses among local residents and businesses were not uniform. Wedding planner Lanza & Baucina said its priorities included minimizing disruption, respecting residents and institutions, and hiring local people. It disputed rumors that the event was “taking over” the city. Those stated aims are the planner’s position, not an independent measurement of the wedding’s overall impact.
Local suppliers described the event as an opportunity to showcase Venetian craft and food. The Associated Press reported that, according to people close to the couple, some 80% of wedding provisions came from Venetian vendors. That sourcing figure was not independently audited and does not settle broader disputes about tourism or residents’ needs.

The AP identified the family pastry business Rosa Salva and Murano-glass design studio Laguna B among the local businesses involved. Reported treats included bussola biscuits and zaletti made with Veneto cornmeal, raisins and lemon zest. Rosa Salva was described as a sixth-generation business whose family has made fishermen’s biscuits since 1876; Laguna B supplied handblown glassware.
Rosa Salva owner Antonio Rosa Salva said: “Events like this bring quality tourism to Venice.” His view illustrates why some businesses welcomed the order, while protesters emphasized housing, living costs and pressure from mass tourism.
