What the February 2026 report said happened at CocoCay
CruiseNews.io reported that a winter storm caused several catwalk sections on the eastern side of CocoCay’s pier to fall into the water. Divers had not located all of the fallen sections, and the eastern berth was being treated as unavailable while debris and safe maneuvering space were assessed. The report described the west side as usable for one ship at a time. CruiseNews.io’s February 14 report is secondary reporting, not a current Royal Caribbean operational notice.
A one-ship berth limit can affect ships differently on the same day: some calls may be retained while others are diverted, reassigned or replaced with a sea day. The report did not establish a reopening timeline for the eastern berth, and the source set does not confirm whether repairs have since been completed.

The ship-by-ship details come from CruiseNews.io’s report and were not independently confirmed by an official source in the reviewed material. They describe specific historical sailings, not a general policy or a forecast for later cruises.
How to check whether your cruise is affected
- Check the sailing-specific notice. Review messages from Royal Caribbean in your guest account or booking communications, and ask your travel advisor if you booked through one.
- Open Royal Caribbean’s Travel Updates page. Its itinerary-update FAQ directs guests there for current weather and port information and says affected guests or their travel advisors will be contacted as soon as possible.
- Confirm the revised schedule with the cruise line or your advisor. A change can affect individual calls differently, so use the notice for your ship and sailing rather than applying another vessel’s itinerary to your booking.
What a missed port means for refunds, excursions and insurance
Royal Caribbean says itineraries or ports may change, including because of weather or other circumstances. An official itinerary page also warns that port calls may change for weather, safety or operational reasons. The company’s Brazil booking-conditions PDF says the line and ship’s master may omit or substitute ports, change their order and alter port times; those provisions apply to Brazil-market conditions and should not be treated as universal booking terms.

Do not assume that a skipped port automatically entitles you to compensation or insurance reimbursement. Your sailing’s booking terms govern what the cruise line may do, while travel-insurance coverage depends on the specific policy, exclusions and circumstances. The reviewed incident report said excursions booked through the cruise line and tied to a missed stop were cancelled and refunded, but that claim was not independently verified in an official source, so check the status of your own excursion directly. A separate, independently booked tour may have different cancellation terms.

The headline phrase “Best Cruise Line Private Island” should not be read as a verified universal award. In Cruiseline.com’s 2026 Member Choice Awards private-destination ranking, Perfect Day at CocoCay placed second with a score of 4.614; Castaway Cay placed first at 4.618. Those are results in that specific member-choice ranking, and the small score difference does not establish a broad objective quality gap.
