What the 2024–25 SCR apprentice recruitment offered
South Central Railway’s Act Apprentice notification, dated 27 December 2024, advertised 4,232 training slots across 16 trade categories. The notice described the total as provisional, so the number could be increased or decreased before final selection.
| Trade | Slots in the 2024–25 notification |
|---|---|
| Fitter | 1,742 |
| Electrician | 1,053 |
| Welder | 713 |
The remaining slots were spread among 13 other trade categories. Candidates had to select an apprenticeship trade and choose from the training establishments offering that trade; establishment preferences were final, and allocation depended on merit.
Application deadline and current status
Applications opened at 17:00 on 28 December 2024 and closed at 23:59 on 27 January 2025. The deadline has passed, so the reported direct application route is expired and should not be treated as an active form. The notification directed candidates to the RRC/SC webpage for updates. Check the South Central Railway website for future recruitment notices.

A subsequent SCR apprentice notice for 2025–26 advertised 2,801 slots, with applications running from 12 March to 11 April 2026. That window has also closed; the available notices do not establish a currently open SCR apprentice application.
Who was eligible under the 2024–25 notice
Residence
Applicants had to reside within the districts specified as falling under South Central Railway jurisdiction. The notice included all Telangana districts; Andhra Pradesh districts except Visakhapatnam, Manyam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam; specified districts in Maharashtra and Karnataka; Vellore in Tamil Nadu; and Burhanpur and Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. State-level descriptions alone are not enough to determine eligibility: consult the notification’s district table for the exact boundary.
Rank #2
Education and trade
Candidates needed 10th/SSC with at least 50% aggregate marks and an ITI qualification in the trade corresponding to the apprenticeship trade selected. An ITI certificate in an unrelated trade was not sufficient under this rule. Engineering graduates and diploma holders were excluded from this notice because they were covered by a separate apprenticeship scheme.
Age
On the opening date, 28 December 2024, applicants had to be at least 15 and under 24. The notice set upper-age relaxations of five years for SC/ST candidates, three years for OBC-NCL candidates and ten years for PwBD candidates, subject to its detailed conditions. These were the rules and cutoff date for this closed intake, not eligibility criteria for a future recruitment.

How selection worked
Merit was calculated by giving equal weight to the percentage of marks in 10th/matriculation and the relevant ITI qualification. The notification stated: “There will be no written test or viva.” That statement applies to the 2024–25 notice only; a later recruitment’s selection method must be checked in its own notification.
If candidates had the same merit score, the older candidate was preferred. If their dates of birth were also the same, preference went to the candidate who had passed matriculation earlier.

Fee and application requirements in the old process
The application fee was ₹100 and non-refundable. The notice exempted SC/ST candidates, women of all communities and PwBD candidates. The online process involved registration, personal and education details, uploading a photograph, signature and relevant documents, selecting eligible training-establishment preferences, and paying the fee where applicable. It also required residence proof, Aadhaar details (or an Aadhaar enrolment ID in the stated circumstance), a personal email address and a mobile number maintained through the engagement process. These are historical instructions, not steps for submitting an application now.

The notice said selected apprentices would receive a stipend at the prescribed rates under the instructions then in force, but did not state a numeric amount in the reviewed text. The amount should therefore not be inferred from this notice; candidates should look for stipend terms in the applicable recruitment notification.
