The Tiffany Blue Nautilus 5711/1A-018 was a 170-watch anniversary edition, not simply a new dial color: it joined Patek Philippe’s planned 2022 retirement of the 5711 with a rare retailer co-signature, a charity auction and a striking gap between launch-era retail and one exceptional auction result.
1. The green dial was not the 5711’s last word
Patek Philippe’s Nautilus reference 5711 was scheduled to leave the collection in 2022. After green-dial farewell-era variants drew attention, the Tiffany Blue 5711/1A-018 supplied a further, unusual closing chapter. Time+Tide called it the model’s “real final victory lap,” an editorial description rather than an official designation that every watch in the 170-piece run was the final 5711. Phillips’ announcement confirmed the planned retirement and the limited anniversary series.
2. The dial marked a 170-year retail relationship
The specific reference was 5711/1A-018. Phillips’ auction record identifies a 40 mm stainless-steel case and automatic caliber 26-330 S C. Its Tiffany Blue lacquer dial carries “Patek Philippe” at 12 o’clock and “Tiffany & Co.” at 6. The dual signature was unusual: Phillips described Tiffany as the only retailer whose name appeared on a Patek Philippe dial. Phillips’ lot record lists the specifications and inscriptions.
The 170 watches commemorated 170 years of partnership. Phillips dates the first U.S. retail agreement between the companies to 1851 and describes the caseback engraving as “170th Anniversary 1851-2021 Tiffany & Co. – Patek Philippe.” Its press release also listed 120 meters of water resistance and said each bracelet passed through 55 production steps. 3. Launch price and allocation were part of the story
Time+Tide reported a launch-era retail price of $52,635 in December 2021. That is a historical price, not evidence of present-day retail availability or value. Phillips also printed $52,635 as its good-faith fair-market-value estimate for the auction lot’s charitable-contribution note; that estimate served a separate purpose and should not be confused with a current appraisal or the eventual sale price. Phillips’ lot record documents the estimate context, while Time+Tide’s launch coverage reported the retail figure.
The edition’s small size made access a question as well as a product detail. Time+Tide quoted Patek Philippe president Thierry Stern on the challenge of choosing buyers: “It may be a big problem. They may not realise how difficult it’s going to be to choose the clients.” Phillips said the watches after the first auction example were intended for Tiffany locations in New York, Beverly Hills and San Francisco. This was the announced 2021 distribution plan, not a statement of current availability. Time+Tide reported Stern’s remark; Phillips listed the planned locations.

4. The first watch sold for charity—and far above its launch price
Phillips announced that the first example would be auctioned on December 11, 2021, with 100% of proceeds benefiting The Nature Conservancy. The lot record shows a realized price of $6,503,500. That figure belongs to this first watch and its charity auction; it is not the retail price, a market-wide valuation, or a demonstrated price for the other 169 watches. One contemporary article also pointed to what it interpreted as a vertical “LVMH” in the “1” of the caseback date, suggesting possible symbolism about the partnership’s future. That was the writer’s observation and speculation, not a conclusion established by Phillips. The documented significance is the anniversary inscription and co-signed dial; the future of the relationship cannot be inferred from that detail alone. Time+Tide presented the interpretation.
