The practical difference is that QNT relates to paying for a platform service, whereas XRP has functions built into its own ledger. Understanding the distinction means separating each token from the company and technology around it.
What QNT, Quant and Overledger refer to
Quant is the company, Overledger is its API-based interoperability platform, and QNT is the token associated with that platform. Quant describes Overledger as a way to connect traditional financial systems and blockchain networks, with use cases including multi-chain transfers and smart-contract activity. These are product descriptions, not proof that every proposed use case has been deployed at scale. Quant’s Overledger overview describes the platform.
Quant’s current FAQ says customers can pay platform fees in USD or subscribe with QNT. That means QNT is not established as mandatory for every Overledger customer. Quant also has older technical material describing QNT transaction utility and fiat options for corporate customers; those descriptions should be read as historical explanations, not as a current protocol specification. The available current FAQ does not establish a complete supply schedule or a guaranteed mechanism by which platform use accrues value to QNT. Quant’s FAQ and Quant’s technical article provide the relevant descriptions.
Quant presents tokenisation as another Overledger-related use case, including digital currencies, cross-border and next-generation payments, capital-market assets and supply-chain monitoring. These are target applications described by Quant, rather than independently verified outcomes. Quant’s tokenisation page outlines them.

What XRP, Ripple and the XRP Ledger refer to
Ripple is a technology company; XRPL is a decentralized ledger; and XRP is that ledger’s native token. Ripple says XRP facilitates XRPL transactions, helps protect the ledger from spam, and can bridge currencies in the ledger’s native decentralized exchange. Ripple’s own explanation compares XRP’s native-token role to ETH on Ethereum or BTC on Bitcoin. Ripple’s XRP page describes these functions.
XRPL can support tokenised assets, but that capability does not mean every tokenised asset on the ledger uses XRP. XRP’s bridge-asset role and the ledger’s broader asset capabilities are related but distinct.

What the published supply figures do—and do not—show
Ripple reported that, as of June 30, 2026, it held 37,656,053,914 XRP, had distributed 62,329,587,596 XRP, and had 32,600,000,000 XRP placed in escrow. These are Ripple-reported categories on that date. They should not be treated as interchangeable measures or presented as XRPL’s current circulating supply. Ripple’s XRP Markets Report gives the figures.
The reviewed current Quant FAQ does not provide a comparable complete QNT supply schedule. Without that information, it would be misleading to infer a supply cap, scarcity effect or token-value mechanism from the fact that QNT can be used for a subscription.

How to compare them for your own decision
- Start with the role you are evaluating. QNT is connected to access and payment within a platform ecosystem; XRP is used within its native ledger.
- Check whether the token is required for the service or network function. Quant says its platform fee can be paid in USD or QNT, so a QNT subscription is an option rather than a stated requirement for every customer.
- Separate a product’s stated use cases from demonstrated adoption. Quant’s descriptions of interoperability and tokenisation explain what it offers or targets; they do not by themselves establish deployment outcomes.
- Read supply data by category and date. Ripple’s dated holdings, distribution and escrow numbers are not a substitute for a circulating-supply figure, while the cited Quant FAQ does not supply a full QNT schedule.
- Do not infer investment performance from utility alone. A payment use, ledger function or platform subscription does not guarantee token demand, value accrual or returns.
Quant historically announced that Overledger 2.0 provided interoperability to XRP, Ethereum and Bitcoin mainnets. That is a historical support statement, not a current complete network list. Quant’s FAQ directs users seeking the latest supported networks to its developer hub. Quant’s Overledger 2.0 announcement records the historical claim; its FAQ points to current developer documentation.
