How to verify a claimed 43% gain
A percentage move is meaningful only when the comparison is clear. Check the same provider and quote currency for both endpoints, and confirm whether the report compares daily closes, intraday prices, or another interval. A daily close should not be compared with an intraday high without stating that difference.
- Identify the asset: Confirm that the quote is for the Ethereum PEPE token, not another token using Pepe in its name.
- Set the interval: Record the start and end dates and times, including the time zone.
- Use a consistent price basis: Compare like with like—such as two daily closes from one provider, rather than a close and an intraday high.
- Check the market reference: Note whether the figure comes from a particular spot venue or an aggregated index. Derivatives prices are a separate measure from spot-market prices.
Without those details, “up 43%” cannot be independently assessed from the two October daily closes alone.

PEPE’s history includes sharp attention and trading activity: CoinMarketCap’s historical overview reports a market capitalization of $1.6 billion at one point during a surge from late April to May 2023. Use a market-data page that clearly identifies the token, quote currency, timestamp, and whether the displayed figure is an intraday price or a daily close. For comparisons across venues or providers, keep the time window and price convention consistent; otherwise apparent differences may reflect methodology or market coverage rather than a comparable move.
