There is no universally best service for every family, and prices, catalogs and availability vary by country and change over time.
Which streaming service is best for your family?
The best fit is the service that covers the most important recurring viewing for your household at a price and plan level you can live with. Start with needs, not brand names or a bundle promotion.
- Make a household watch list. Ask each person for a few must-watch shows, genres or events. Note whether anyone needs live sports or news, and which children’s age groups the service must accommodate.
- Check availability where you live. Remove services that do not carry enough of those wants in your country. Catalogs and geographic availability can change, so verify the titles and live content you care about on the service itself.
- Compare the plan you would actually buy. Account for ads, the number of simultaneous viewers, video quality and downloads where they matter. Compare standalone plans with bundles only after identifying which included services the family will use.
- Check household fit before subscribing. Confirm that your television and other devices are supported, and review the service’s profile controls if children will watch.
A useful budget check is to list the services the household already pays for, then ask whether a new subscription replaces one or simply adds another recurring bill. A bundle is worthwhile only if its included services meet distinct, regular needs; an attractive bundle price does not save money if much of it goes unused.
How should you compare monthly cost, ads and bundles?
Compare the plan tiers that match your household’s preferences rather than treating a service’s lowest advertised price as the relevant price. Ad-supported plans may cost less but include advertising; higher tiers may add streams, better video quality or other features. Check billing terms before signing up, particularly if subscribing through a third party.

Prices in the table come from U.S. service pages and are snapshots with different page dates; they are not a like-for-like quote for every household. Taxes, billing channels, existing-customer terms and eligibility can affect what you pay. For the clearest comparison, write down each candidate plan’s actual monthly charge, whether it has ads, what it includes and how often the household would use those inclusions.

How many screens can stream at once?
Count how many people are likely to watch at the same time, not how many people live in the home. If one person watches in the living room while others use separate screens, the plan’s simultaneous-stream limit may matter more than the number of profiles.
- Netflix: The U.S. plan page lists two simultaneous devices on Standard with ads and Standard, and four on Premium. See Netflix plan details.
- HBO Max: The U.S. plan page lists two simultaneous streams on Basic with Ads and Standard, and four on Premium. Premium allows only two simultaneous streams for sports. See HBO Max plan details.
These examples illustrate why a family should match its expected use to the chosen tier. Do not assume a limit for a plan or service that is not stated here; check the current terms for the exact plan you are considering.

Will the service work on your family’s devices?
Before paying, confirm that the service works on the television and other screens the household uses. Hulu’s U.S. help page says a supported device and internet connection are required, and its pricing page specifies a U.S. location and valid payment method. The available information does not provide an exhaustive compatibility list, so check the provider’s current device guidance for your exact model. Hulu supported devices · Hulu plans and requirements
What does family viewing data tell you?
Common Sense Media’s 2025 census reports that U.S. children ages 0–8 averaged 31 minutes per day watching television or video by download or streaming in 2024; 40% watched TV shows or movies through streaming platforms daily.
