It does not say when that might happen—or predict whether either stock will rise or fall next. Both companies reported exceptionally strong FY2026 results and issued upbeat fiscal Q1 2027 revenue guidance, but those facts are not a guarantee of continued stock gains. The headline’s 460% and 1,190% one-year return figures have not been independently verified here, so they should not be treated as a like-for-like performance comparison.
What do Micron and SanDisk’s results say about the rally?
The companies’ FY2026 results show a major improvement in reported revenue and profit. Their management teams also forecast strong revenue for fiscal Q1 2027. Those are company-specific operating results and outlooks; neither establishes that the shares will keep rising.
| Company | FY2026 reported results | Fiscal Q1 2027 management outlook |
|---|---|---|
| Micron Technology | Revenue of $133.188 billion, versus $37.378 billion in FY2025; GAAP net income of $84.969 billion. | Revenue of $61.5 billion, plus or minus $1.5 billion. |
| SanDisk | Revenue of $20.248 billion, up 175% year over year; GAAP net income of $11.433 billion. | Revenue of $10.3 billion to $10.8 billion. |
These figures are from the companies’ FY2026 results releases. The guidance is management’s forecast for the stated fiscal quarter, not a reported result or a certainty. Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra described the company’s outlook this way: “Micron delivered record fiscal 2026 results, and we expect an even stronger fiscal 2027.” That is the CEO’s forward-looking view.
Are the 460% and 1,190% one-year returns comparable?
The exact returns in the headline have not been established as checked figures. To verify and compare them, an investor would need the precise start and end dates, the closing-price source, whether dividends are included, and a consistent treatment of SanDisk’s corporate history. Without those details, the percentages are not a sound basis for comparing the companies or projecting future performance.

- Disclaimer: Maximum Speed requires overclocking/PC BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depend on system components, including motherboard and CPU
- Hand-sorted memory chips ensure high performance with generous overclocking headroom
- VENGEANCE LPX is optimized for wide compatibility with the latest Intel and AMD DDR4 motherboards
- A low-profile height of just 34mm ensures that VENGEANCE LPX even fits in most small-form-factor builds
- A solid aluminum heatspreader efficiently dissipates heat from each module so that they consistently run at high clock speeds
SanDisk’s public-company history is shorter
SanDisk says it completed its separation from Western Digital on February 21, 2025. That matters when interpreting a one-year share-price comparison: SanDisk’s standalone trading history began with that separation, so its chart does not represent a long record of an independent company across earlier memory cycles.
What does memory-cycle history suggest could happen next?
Memory prices can fall sharply when suppliers add capacity or production faster than demand grows. Baillie Gifford’s 2026 historical analysis describes several downturns that illustrate the risk:

- [Color] PCB color may vary (black or green) depending on production batch. Quality and performance remain consistent across all Timetec products.
- DDR3L / DDR3 1600MHz PC3L-12800 / PC3-12800 240-Pin Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.35V / 1.5V CL11 Dual Rank 2Rx8 based 512x8
- Module Size: 16GB KIT(2x8GB Modules) Package: 2x8GB ; JEDEC standard 1.35V, this is a dual voltage piece and can operate at 1.35V or 1.5V
- For DDR3 Desktop Compatible with Intel and AMD CPU, Not for Laptop
- Guaranteed Lifetime warranty from Purchase Date and Free technical support based on United States
- In 1996, supply overtook demand.
- In 2018–19, prices declined after a period of high demand as inventories changed.
- In the 2021–23 downturn, Micron’s DRAM prices had fallen almost 50% and NAND prices more than 50% by 2023, according to Baillie Gifford.
These episodes show that long-run demand growth and industry consolidation do not prevent a painful downturn when supply catches up. Baillie Gifford’s 2026 analysis puts the tension plainly: “The uncomfortable lesson is that all the bullish arguments could be true: secular demand, industry consolidation and better discipline…and yet prices could still collapse when supply catches up.”
The episodes are examples, not a timetable. Their conditions differed, and they do not establish that the current cycle will follow the same path or that the stocks will react in a particular way.

- Requires overclocking/BIOS adjustments. Maximum speed and performance depends on system components, including motherboard and CPU.
- G.SKILL RipjawsV Series DDR4 U-DIMM Memory Kit, Model: F4-3200C16D-16GVKB
- Non-ECC, DDR4 U-DIMM, 288-pin, for Desktop PC & Gaming
- Includes JEDEC default profile, and Intel XMP memory overclock profile
- Do not mix memory kits. Memory kits are sold in matched kits that are designed to run together as a set. Mixing memory kits will result in stability issues or system failure.
Does history predict whether the stocks will keep rising?
No. The cited cycle history is about supply, demand, inventories, and memory pricing—not a statistical study of what happens to MU or SNDK after a particular one-year share-price gain. It does not establish a probability, target price, or direction for either stock.
For investors, the useful distinction is between business conditions and stock performance. Strong reported results can support a company’s business outlook, but a memory-price reversal, supply expansion, or other change in expectations can still alter how investors value future earnings. This evidence does not establish a current valuation comparison between Micron and SanDisk.

What supply timing should investors watch?
Baillie Gifford’s 2026 analysis suggests that investment could affect supply around 2027–29, while emphasizing that precise timing is conjectural and stock-price effects are even harder to infer. This is an analyst’s uncertain estimate, separate from the companies’ fiscal Q1 2027 revenue guidance. It is not a prediction that a downturn will begin in a particular year.
A practical way to follow the risk is to watch whether supply and inventory conditions change alongside demand and the companies’ reported results. The history supports paying attention to the cycle; it does not turn any single signal or date into a reliable forecast of share prices.
