Patreon’s standard 10% platform fee is already in effect for creator pages published after August 4, 2025. If you’re starting now, treat 10% as one part of the cost—not the full amount deducted from every payment. If you already have a page, check its plan before making changes: eligible pages published on or before that date retain their existing platform pricing, but unpublishing can affect eligibility.
Who pays Patreon’s 10% platform fee?
Patreon’s standard plan applies to creator pages first published after August 4, 2025. Pages published on or before that cutoff retain the platform pricing already applicable to them as long as they remain eligible, according to Patreon’s Creator fees overview, updated September 11, 2026.

Patreon’s original announcement described the earlier pricing as an 8% platform plan for creators who published by the cutoff. That is historical context, not a guarantee of the plan any particular account has today: eligibility matters, so check your displayed plan rather than relying on the launch date alone. Patreon’s standard-pricing information also identifies August 4, 2025 as the cutoff.
What does the 10% cover—and what else can come out?
The 10% is Patreon’s platform fee, not necessarily the total cost of a transaction. Patreon says the platform fee applies to successfully processed membership payments and one-time purchases, calculated on the payment amount excluding sales tax. Payment processing, payout, currency-conversion, taxes, or other fees can affect what you ultimately receive, depending on the transaction and your circumstances. See Patreon’s fee overview for the applicable fee details.

To estimate net proceeds, use your own mix of recurring memberships and one-time payments, the prices you plan to charge, and the payment methods your audience actually uses. A headline percentage alone cannot tell you what lands in your account.
What to do before launching—or changing—your page
- Check the plan shown in your account. In creator settings, open Plan details and review the Monetization section. Confirm the platform plan attached to your page rather than inferring it from when you began planning or opened an account.
- Model your likely total costs. Estimate proceeds using your expected membership and one-time payment mix, tier prices, and the fees that apply to your transactions and payouts.
- Be cautious about unpublishing a legacy page. Patreon says unpublishing—including when Patreon unpublishes a page—can move an otherwise eligible legacy creator to the standard plan when the page is republished. Understand the account-specific consequence before taking the page offline.
- Compare the platform with your actual needs. Weigh the full fee stack against the tools you use, how members find and pay you, and the friction of moving your audience and content. Do not migrate solely because one platform’s headline rate looks lower.
Do not confuse the fee change with Patreon’s billing transition
The August 4, 2025 cutoff determines which platform pricing applies to a page; it is separate from Patreon’s later change for creators still using legacy billing. Patreon’s standard-pricing article, updated August 26, 2026, says creators on legacy billing must switch to subscription billing by November 1, 2026. If they do not, Patreon says it will switch them automatically, pause billing, and keep it paused until they consent to the recommended multiplier or update prices.

For creators on per-creation billing who need one-to-one support, Patreon says to contact Support through settings before October 15, 2026. These are billing-model requirements, not the effective date of the 10% platform fee. Check Patreon’s standard-pricing article for the current instructions.

| Platform | Published fee information | Where it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Patreon | Standard platform fee of 10% for pages published after August 4, 2025; other fees may also apply. (Patreon Creator fees overview, updated September 11, 2026.) | Creators seeking Patreon’s membership and community features, particularly when their audience already uses the platform. |
| Ko-fi Free | 0% service fee on one-time tips and 5% on other listed transaction types, including memberships, shop items, monthly tips, and commissions. Payments go directly to the creator’s PayPal or Stripe account; their usual fees still apply. (Ko-fi Help.) | Creators focused on one-time tips, commissions, or shop transactions may find its transaction-based structure relevant. It is not a like-for-like replacement for every Patreon use. |
| Substack | Free to publish; paid subscriptions incur a 10% Substack fee plus Stripe processing. (Substack Support, updated September 29, 2026.) | Newsletter publishers offering paid subscriptions; it is not a lower-platform-fee alternative to Patreon’s new standard plan. |
For an existing creator, keeping an eligible legacy Patreon page may be simpler than moving only to avoid a fee. But that depends on the actual plan, total costs, tools, audience habits, and the work and disruption involved in transferring members or content.
