Contact FedEx and report that the package was delivered to you but is addressed to someone else. Ask the carrier to investigate and follow its instructions; don’t assume you need to pay postage or arrange a new shipment yourself. The exact contact steps vary by country.
What to do with a FedEx package that isn’t yours
- Check the label without opening the parcel. Confirm that it is addressed to someone else. Keep it available while the delivery is investigated.
- Contact FedEx through your country’s support page. Report that you received a package that is not yours and ask FedEx to open or direct you to a case about the delivery.
- Follow the instructions FedEx gives you. Keep the package accessible in case FedEx arranges a pickup, and use the local support channel if you need to clarify what happens next.
FedEx Canada gives a specific example: visit its contact page, enter Package not mine
in the Virtual Support Assistant, and follow the prompts to open a customer-service case. That wording and interface are verified for Canada; they should not be assumed to apply in other countries. FedEx Canada’s instructions for a package that isn’t yours.
Outside Canada, use the support page for your local FedEx service and report the same issue through the contact option it provides. Don’t rely on a phone number or online workflow meant for another country.
What FedEx may do after a misdelivery report
FedEx calls delivery to the wrong address a misdelivery
. Its guidance for Venezuela describes dispatch requesting an on-call pickup, followed by retrieval by the servicing driver. FedEx says it will attempt to deliver the package again that day if possible or otherwise on the next business day. Keep the parcel available and let FedEx tell you whether a pickup is needed. The cited guidance describes a carrier-managed retrieval and redelivery process; it does not tell an unintended recipient to purchase postage or create a replacement shipment.
“Return to Shipper” is not the same as reporting a package that isn’t yours
FedEx’s U.S. Return to Shipper instructions describe a shipper’s request to stop an expedited shipment and return it to its original shipment address. The shipper logs in, enters the tracking number, selects Manage Delivery and Return to Shipper, provides a reason and contact information, and retains the case number. Why you shouldn’t arrange a return shipment on your own
FedEx’s 2026 U.S. Service Guide says that for an undeliverable shipment, FedEx may contact the sender for return or disposal instructions. That is a description of carrier handling under U.S. service terms, not an instruction for the unintended recipient to pay for postage or send the parcel independently.
