You can buy China Construction Bank (CCB) shares through a brokerage that supports the relevant market: Hong Kong H-shares trade as 939, while Shanghai A-shares trade as 601939. The two listings have different access rules, trading currencies and lot sizes. Before placing an order, confirm that your broker serves your country, supports the listing you want, and explains its fees, settlement and custody arrangements.
Choose between CCB’s Hong Kong H-shares and Shanghai A-shares
CCB lists two distinct share classes. Its shareholder information identifies H-shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board under ticker 939 and A-shares on the Shanghai Stock Exchange under ticker 601939. These are different instruments on different markets; selecting the bank’s name alone is not enough to ensure you have the intended listing.
| Listing | Market and ticker | CCB-stated board lot | Typical access route |
|---|---|---|---|
| H-shares | Hong Kong Stock Exchange Main Board, 939 | 1,000 H-shares per block | A brokerage account with Hong Kong market access |
| A-shares | Shanghai Stock Exchange, 601939 | 100 A-shares per block | For eligible Hong Kong and overseas investors, Northbound Stock Connect through a participating broker, subject to security eligibility |
Lot sizes are from CCB’s shareholder FAQ; verify current dealing rules and your broker’s odd-lot handling before trading. The route descriptions are not guarantees of access: brokers may not offer both markets, and Stock Connect is subject to investor, broker and security requirements.
How to buy CCB H-shares through a brokerage
- Check account and market access. Confirm that the brokerage accepts clients in your country and enables trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
- Fund the account and check currency terms. Ask what currency the order and settlement use, how to fund it, and whether conversion charges or other foreign-exchange costs apply.
- Find the exact instrument. Search for China Construction Bank’s Hong Kong listing, ticker 939. Check the exchange and share class shown on the order ticket rather than relying on a name-only search result.
- Review lot and order rules. CCB states a 1,000-share H-share board lot. Check whether your broker permits odd-lot trades and what order types are available for this listing.
- Review the order before submitting. Confirm the ticker, market, quantity, order type, estimated total, available cash and all displayed charges. Submit only when those details match your instructions.
- Check the confirmation and holding record. Review the trade confirmation, settlement information and the way your brokerage records the shares and handles corporate actions.
Order screens differ by provider. For example, CCB (Asia)’s online-order FAQ describes selecting a market, order type and securities account in its service; that is an illustration of one provider’s workflow, not a universal interface.

How overseas investors may access CCB A-shares
Northbound Stock Connect links Hong Kong and Shanghai markets and can provide eligible Hong Kong and overseas investors access to qualifying Shanghai-listed securities. It does not make every A-share available to every investor. The Shanghai Stock Exchange describes Northbound investor and programme rules, and its eligibility information sets out qualifying security categories, including specified index constituents and qualifying A+H shares. Check the current status of CCB’s 601939 listing and your broker’s Stock Connect service before attempting an order.
- Ask whether your broker offers Northbound Stock Connect. Confirm that the service is available for your country, account type and investor status.
- Verify the security’s current eligibility. Ask the broker to confirm that CCB’s Shanghai listing, 601939, is presently eligible for Northbound trading.
- Confirm account, currency and settlement requirements. Ask which account must be funded, what currency is used, how conversion and settlement work, and what charges apply.
- Place the order using the broker’s Stock Connect workflow. Verify the instrument, quantity, order type, estimated costs and settlement details on the order ticket.
Provider terms are not interchangeable. CCB (Asia), for example, says its Northbound customers need a securities trading cash account and an RMB settlement account, and publishes its own eligible-stock categories and foreign-shareholding restrictions. Those are CCB (Asia)’s conditions, not universal requirements for every broker.

Compare the broker’s access, costs and terms before opening or funding an account
Your residence and account eligibility determine which providers can serve you, and no current official country-specific retail fee listing is published here. Obtain current, written terms from the provider for the market and route you intend to use.
- Market access: Does the account support Hong Kong trading, Northbound Stock Connect, or both?
- Eligibility: Are you eligible based on residence, account type and any investor-status rules? Is the selected CCB listing currently tradable through that service?
- Trading and settlement currency: Which currency is required, how is conversion handled, and when is settlement due?
- Total costs: Ask for the applicable commission, exchange or regulatory charges, custody charges if any, and foreign-exchange costs. Rates can vary by provider, market and jurisdiction.
- Order and lot handling: Confirm the board-lot rules, order types, minimums and whether the broker handles odd lots.
- Holdings and corporate actions: Ask how the broker and its custodian record your beneficial interest, and how dividends, voting and other corporate actions are processed.
Understand how the shares may be held
Buying through a brokerage does not necessarily mean that your name appears directly on the issuer’s register. CCB’s 2026 half-year report describes HKSCC Nominees holding H-shares for registered investors and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company holding Northbound A-shares for Hong Kong and overseas investors as at 30 June 2026. Your broker’s account and custody terms determine how your beneficial interest is recorded and how you exercise rights or receive corporate-action proceeds; read those terms rather than assuming direct registration.
