Which watch brand was Oliver Ike trying to revive?
The 2013 campaign story concerned A. Manzoni & Fils. Monochrome Watches reported on June 24, 2013, that Ike was trying to revive the Swiss watch brand through Kickstarter, with the Canopus Weekplanner as its proposed watch. The headline’s reference to Ikepod describes Ike’s earlier association with that brand; it does not identify Ikepod as the subject of the Kickstarter campaign. Monochrome Watches’ 2013 account is the source for that distinction.
Ike’s connection to Ikepod
Ikepod’s official history says Oliver Ike and Marc Newson founded Ikepod in 1994. Monochrome reported that neither Ike nor Newson was involved with Ikepod by the time of its 2013 article. The company Ike was then seeking to revive through Kickstarter was A. Manzoni & Fils, a separate brand.
What was the Canopus Weekplanner?
The Canopus was presented as a mechanical wristwatch with a full-calendar display. Monochrome described indications for weekday, date, week number, month and moon phase, housed in an ergonomically designed case. Finnish designer Ilkka Suppanen was credited with the design in WatchPaper’s campaign-era coverage.

WatchPaper’s September 4, 2013 report described the Canopus as a limited-edition automatic watch and listed weekday, moon phase, date and week number among its displays. That report does not list the month indication included in Monochrome’s fuller description. The two accounts agree on the watch’s calendar-focused concept, but their display descriptions are not identical. WatchPaper’s campaign announcement also quoted Ike saying, “It is time to reunite sophisticated design with handcrafted Swiss watchmaking technology.” That was a campaign statement, not independent proof of the watch’s manufacturing or performance.
What were the campaign dates and price?
WatchPaper reported that the Kickstarter campaign was announced to run from August 27 through October 27, 2013. Its article gave an early price of US$5,000 and said that amount was one third of the planned future retail price. That implies a planned retail price of US$15,000, calculated from the reported ratio; it was not a separately confirmed final price.

These are campaign-era announced terms, not evidence of a final sale price, a completed campaign, or the watch’s present value. The available accounts establish that the campaign was announced and describe its proposed terms, but do not establish whether it met its goal or whether backers received watches.

Ikepod’s own history says Christian-Louis Col acquired Ikepod and its designs in 2017, then relaunched the brand through Kickstarter in 2018. The company says more than 700 backers supported the Duopod and Chronopod launch, and that those watches were assembled in Hong Kong with Japanese movements and Taiwanese dials. These details are Ikepod’s account of its own history, not information about the earlier A. Manzoni & Fils campaign. The two campaigns are connected by Ike’s history with Ikepod, but they involved different brands, products and owners. The cited sources do not establish what later happened to A. Manzoni & Fils or whether the Canopus became available after the announced campaign.
