To activate an RBC Royal Bank credit card online, sign in to RBC Online Banking, choose the card from Account Summary, open Account Details, select Activate Now and follow the prompts. If you do not use Online Banking, RBC says you can activate at rbc.com/activate without enrolling first.
Activate your card through RBC Online Banking
- Sign in to RBC Online Banking.
- On Account Summary, select your credit card.
- On the Account Details page, select Activate Now.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete activation.
RBC’s activation FAQ describes the button as Activate My Credit Card. The label may differ by page or experience, so look for the activation action on the card details page. RBC’s activation instructions provide the current route.
Activate without Online Banking access
Use RBC’s separate activation flow at rbc.com/activate and follow its prompts. RBC says Online Banking enrollment is not required before starting; the flow also offers the option to enroll during activation.
Activate in the RBC Mobile app
- In the app, select the new card from Accounts Overview.
- Open Credit Card Details.
- Select Add or Activate Your Card, then follow the instructions.
RBC says to activate a physical card after it arrives. On iOS, it also offers the option to add a virtual card to Apple Wallet for earlier use; that option is not a way to activate the physical card before delivery and is not stated as available on every device. See RBC’s cardholder FAQ.

Call RBC if online activation does not work
RBC provides automated phone activation, but its official pages list different general numbers. The activation page lists 1-877-900-5900 for personal or business cards; its FAQs also list 1-888-769-2585 for Private Banking cards and, on another page, 1-800-769-2512 for phone activation. Check the current number on RBC’s activation page or the materials that came with your card rather than relying on a single number.

After activation and special cases
- If the card has a signature strip, sign it.
- If this card replaces an older one, cut up and discard the old card.
- If the card was cancelled or closed, RBC says it must be reactivated by calling 1-800-769-2512; use the contact details in RBC’s activation FAQ to confirm the appropriate route.
