The best choice depends on your transfer route, amount, funding method and timing—and, for Revolut, your country, plan and remaining exchange allowance. Compare the live quotes for the same transfer and choose based on the amount the recipient is expected to receive after fees.
How Revolut and Wise price international transfers
The services present costs differently, so a headline fee alone is not enough to compare them. Check the exchange rate, the transfer and funding fees, and any charges that could reduce the amount delivered.
Wise: mid-market exchange rate plus a variable fee
Wise says it uses the mid-market exchange rate without adding a markup, then charges a separate fee. That fee varies with the amount, currency and payment method. Wise summarizes the factors this way: “How much a transfer costs depends on three things — the amount you’re sending, how you pay, and the exchange rate.” Its pricing tool shows the quote for the transfer details you enter. Wise Help Centre: fees for sending money.
A mid-market rate does not guarantee Wise will be cheapest: the separate fee and any route-related charges still affect the recipient’s final amount. Do not assume one fee percentage applies to every transfer.

Revolut: terms depend on country and plan
Revolut’s exchange allowances and fees differ by market and plan. Its UK and US help pages list different thresholds, so neither example below should be applied to customers in other markets—or treated as a complete schedule of every possible transfer charge. Check the current terms for your residence and account, then use the in-app quote for the specific transfer.
| Market and plan | Exchange allowance and fee described on the help page | Weekend exchange terms described on the page |
|---|---|---|
| UK Standard | 1% fee on exchanges above £1,000 or equivalent during the rolling-month allowance | 1% from 17:00 Friday to 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time |
| UK Plus | 0.5% fee on exchanges above £3,000 or equivalent during the rolling-month allowance | 0.5% from 17:00 Friday to 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time |
| UK Premium, Metal and Ultra | No additional exchange fee under the page’s stated terms | No additional exchange fee under the page’s stated terms |
| US Standard | 0.5% fee on exchanges above $1,000 or equivalent | 1% outside foreign-exchange market hours, from 17:00 Friday to 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time, for plans to which the fee applies |
| US Premium | 0.5% fee on exchanges above $10,000 or equivalent | 1% outside foreign-exchange market hours, from 17:00 Friday to 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time, for plans to which the fee applies |
| US Metal | No additional exchange fees | The page describes the weekend fee for plans to which it applies; check the current terms for your plan |
The UK allowances reset each rolling month. These are exchange terms, not a statement of every possible international-transfer fee. The pages do not state a year for these terms; they were checked on October 7, 2026. See Revolut’s UK exchange-fee terms and Revolut’s US exchange-fee terms.
Compare the recipient amount, not just the advertised fee
For a fair comparison, enter matching transfer details in both services. A quote for a different funding method, recipient currency or send amount does not establish which provider is cheaper for your transfer.
- Enter the same sending country, destination, amount and recipient currency in each service.
- Select the same funding method where both offer it. Wise says its price varies by payment method as well as currency and amount.
- Compare the total amount debited from you with the amount each service estimates the recipient will receive.
- Review the exchange rate and each listed charge. For Revolut, account for your plan, remaining monthly exchange allowance and the time you initiate the exchange.
- Check the delivery estimate and whether the route may incur receiving-bank or intermediary-bank fees.
The amount the recipient is expected to receive is usually the most useful single comparison, but it may not include charges deducted later by a receiving or intermediary bank. Read what each quote includes before deciding.

Check whether the route and payment method are supported
Currency availability does not by itself prove that a particular sending-to-receiving route or payout method is supported. Wise’s currency guidance describes limitations on supported routes; confirm the exact currencies and payout option in the current transfer flow before relying on a quote. Wise’s supported-currency guidance.
Limits also depend on region and payment type. Wise’s US limits guide, updated March 28, 2026, says limits differ between methods such as local transfer and Swift. It says customers are notified in the app or desktop flow when a payment reaches a limit, and advises US customers to check regional terms. That guidance is not a global transfer cap. Transfers without currency conversion can still have charges
A transfer in the same currency may still travel through international banking networks. Wise’s USD-to-USD international-transfer guidance describes destination-dependent Swift fees and possible correspondent-bank charges. It lists $6.15 per transfer for the specific destinations where it predicts no correspondent fees; this is not a general Wise fee and does not apply to every USD transfer or converted transfer. - Consider Wise when its live quote gives the recipient a higher net amount, or when you value its stated mid-market-rate approach and can see the separate fee clearly for your chosen route and funding method.
- Consider Revolut when its quote is more favorable for your route and your local plan terms, remaining allowance and transfer timing work for you.
- Pause and check both if the corridor, payout method, transfer limit, bank charges or delivery estimate is unclear. Provider support and constraints vary by route.
The official pages reviewed do not establish a complete, like-for-like delivery-time ranking across routes. Compare the estimate shown for your exact transfer rather than assuming either service is faster.
