It does not, by itself, tell you whether NVDA stock is cheap, expensive, or likely to rise. As of October 7, 2026, the latest results located were for Q2 FY2027; they report earnings, but a current P/E also requires a share price matched to a specific date and a clearly defined earnings measure.
How to read NVIDIA’s P/E ratio
P/E is calculated by dividing a company’s share price by its earnings per share (EPS). It expresses a price relative to earnings: a higher ratio means investors are paying more for each dollar of the stated EPS figure. The result is incomplete unless you know which EPS measure and time period supplied the denominator.
For example, a P/E based on GAAP diluted EPS is not directly interchangeable with one based on adjusted or non-GAAP EPS. The share price also needs a date: the numerator changes as NVDA trades, while reported earnings and forecasts can change on different schedules.
Trailing and forward P/E use different earnings
| Measure | What goes in the denominator | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Trailing P/E | Reported earnings over a past period, commonly the latest four quarters | Which quarters, whether EPS is GAAP or adjusted, and the share-price date |
| Forward P/E | Expected earnings over a future period | Estimate provider, estimate date, forecast horizon, and EPS basis |
A forward P/E is based on forecasts, not completed results. It can move when analysts revise estimates even if the share price does not. A trailing P/E can change with the stock price or as a new quarter replaces an older one in the four-quarter period.

What NVIDIA’s latest reported earnings show
NVIDIA’s latest results located as of October 7, 2026 were for Q2 FY2027, the quarter ended July 26, 2026. The company reported $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year, and GAAP diluted EPS of $2.46. NVIDIA’s Q2 FY2027 release provides the reported figures and company outlook.
Across Q3 FY2026, Q4 FY2026, Q1 FY2027, and Q2 FY2027, NVIDIA reported GAAP diluted EPS of $1.30, $1.76, $2.39, and $2.46, respectively. Those figures sum to $7.91 per diluted share for the four-quarter period. That sum is an earnings input, not a P/E: calculating a trailing multiple requires a share price from a specified matching date.

Do not substitute NVIDIA’s $4.90 GAAP diluted EPS for fiscal 2026 into that four-quarter calculation. The fiscal-year figure covers a different period. NVIDIA also reports non-GAAP measures and said it would include stock-based compensation expense in its non-GAAP financial measures beginning in Q1 FY2027. For an apples-to-apples calculation or comparison, name the basis rather than treating adjusted and GAAP earnings as equivalent. NVIDIA’s Q4 and FY2026 release describes its fiscal-year results and presentation note.
Does NVIDIA’s P/E mean the stock is cheap or expensive?
Not on its own. A higher P/E may reflect expectations of faster or more durable future earnings, lower perceived risk, or other market assumptions. It does not prove that those expectations will be met or that the stock price is justified. A lower P/E may reflect weaker growth expectations, greater uncertainty, a temporary earnings boost, or accounting effects; it is not automatically a bargain.

The available reported earnings do not establish a live trailing P/E, because no timestamp-matched NVDA share price was verified. A defensible forward P/E would additionally need a named estimate source, estimate date, and forecast horizon. Without those inputs, publishing a single current multiple would imply more precision than the evidence supports.
What P/E leaves out of an investment decision
P/E compresses price and earnings into one number; it does not measure earnings quality or durability, competitive position, the balance of business risks, or the reliability of forecasts. It also does not mechanically price risks disclosed by the company. NVIDIA’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, filed August 27, warns that risks could adversely affect its business, financial condition, results, or reputation and that its common stock price could decline. The filing sets out those risk disclosures.

Management’s view of opportunity should also be kept separate from valuation evidence. In the Q2 FY2027 release, CEO Jensen Huang said, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” That is management’s statement about the business and market opportunity, not an independent conclusion about what NVDA is worth or what its shares will return.

When comparing NVDA with its own history or another company, align the inputs before interpreting the result:

- Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 OC mode: 2640MHz/Default mode: 2610MHz (Boost Clock)
- Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
- Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
- Earnings basis: Compare GAAP with GAAP, or clearly label adjusted/non-GAAP EPS and its definition.
- Time horizon: Specify trailing four quarters, a named fiscal year, or a defined forward estimate period.
- Price date: Use share prices from the same date and time convention across the comparison.
- Growth and durability: Examine what earnings growth is expected and how much depends on assumptions; a multiple does not make growth certain.
- Risk and concentration: Consider business and demand risks from company filings alongside the ratio, since P/E does not quantify them.
These checks make the comparison more meaningful, but they do not turn P/E into a standalone buy-or-sell signal.
