Cancel an app subscription through the company that bills you: on iPhone, use Settings > your name > Subscriptions for Apple-billed subscriptions; on Android, open Google Play’s Subscriptions page for Google Play-billed subscriptions. Select the plan and follow the cancellation prompts. Deleting the app alone does not stop billing.
First, check who bills the subscription
The app you use does not always handle the payment. Apple-billed subscriptions are managed through your Apple Account; Google Play-billed subscriptions are managed through the Google Account used for the purchase. Some subscriptions are billed directly by the service, a carrier, or another provider, in which case you must cancel with that biller. Apple Music or Apple TV subscribed to on Android may be billed through Google Play, so check the charge rather than relying on the app’s name. Cancel an Apple-billed subscription on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top of the screen.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Select the subscription you want to stop.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and follow any prompts.
If there is no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message, Apple says the subscription is already canceled. Apple also provides a web cancellation route; its support page explains the available options.
Cancel a Google Play subscription on Android
- Confirm Google Play is signed in to the Google Account that holds the subscription.
- Open Subscriptions in Google Play.
- Select the subscription.
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.
Google Play’s official instructions state: “When you uninstall the app, your subscription won’t cancel.” Cancel from the subscription settings instead.

What happens after you cancel?
Cancellation generally turns off renewal; it does not usually end access immediately. Google Play says you retain access for the time already paid for. A payment plan is different: if a Google Play payment plan has already started, turning off auto-renewal does not remove payments still due under the current plan.
Google Play prepaid subscriptions have a fixed term and generally expire when that term ends, so they usually do not need cancellation. Refund eligibility is a separate question from cancellation; Google Play notes that unused prepaid plans may have a refund route.

Free trials: cancel before renewal
For an Apple-billed trial, Apple advises canceling at least 24 hours before the trial ends if you do not want it to renew. This timing is Apple-specific; do not assume the same deadline applies to a trial billed by Google Play or directly by an app provider. Check that biller’s terms and subscription screen.

- Check the account. On iPhone, search your email for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple” and confirm which Apple Account appears on the receipt. Sign in to that account. A family member whose Apple Account is shown on the receipt must cancel the subscription from their own account. On Android, switch Google Accounts in Google Play and check each one.
- Trace the charge. If you cannot find an Apple receipt, check your card or bank statement for the company charging you, then contact that company. A carrier or direct-billed subscription may need to be canceled with that provider rather than in Apple or Google Play.
- Use the matching route. If Apple Music or Apple TV is billed through Google Play, cancel it there. For an Apple-billed subscription on Android, Apple directs customers to its cancellation options, including account.apple.com.
