Then identify whether the application was rejected, received no allotment, has funds blocked or debited, or was allotted shares that have not appeared in the demat account. These are different problems, and a UPI mandate or debit notification by itself does not confirm allotment.
Start by identifying the status
Check the bid with the bank, broker, depository participant (DP), or other intermediary through which you applied, and check the allotment result with the issue registrar. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) says its bid-verification module shows bids entered against a registered PAN, with information available six days after the issue closes. For allotment-related details, check the registrar’s channel. If your bid went through an intermediary, ask it to confirm that the bid was submitted and to check the payment or mandate status.
A blocked amount is not proof that a bid was valid or that shares were allotted. Under ASBA, the application amount is blocked in the bank account; the amount due for allotted shares is debited after allotment, and a block should be released when there is no allotment. A UPI notification about a debit is not the allotment result: SEBI says the allotment communication is separate. SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ and the NSE e-IPO information explain these processes.
| What you see | What it may mean | First action |
|---|---|---|
| Registrar says rejected | A validation, eligibility, or technical rule may have applied. | Ask the registrar for the rejection reason and compare it with your application and the issue offer documents. |
| No allotment; funds still blocked | The block for an unsuccessful application has not been released. | Contact the UPI app, bank/SCSB, registrar, merchant banker, or submitting intermediary with your application and mandate details. |
| No allotment; funds debited | The payment may need to be reconciled against the application and allotment. | Contact the bank, UPI app, registrar, merchant banker, or intermediary with the amount, dates, application details, and mandate number if available. |
| Allotment confirmed; shares absent from demat | The credit may be pending, or the application may name different demat details. | Check the demat details on the application, then contact the registrar and DP. |
| UPI mandate missing | The request may not have reached or been accepted in the UPI app. | Check pending requests and contact the member that submitted the bid promptly. |
If the application was rejected
Ask the registrar for the specific rejection reason. Compare the stated reason with your application record, PAN, bid details, applicant’s bank or UPI information, and demat particulars. Rejection rules can depend on the issue, so also check its prospectus or other offer documents rather than assuming a general list covers every case.
#1 Best Overall
SEBI says a retail individual investor application using a third-party UPI ID, or an application in any category using a third-party bank account, is liable for rejection. Use payment and applicant details that belong to the applicant, and ask the registrar or submitting intermediary to identify any mismatch. NSE also advises applicants to contact the registrar for technical rejection details.
NSE’s e-IPO FAQ says one bid per PAN is allowed. It notes that the system may not block further orders but that an additional order is likely to be rejected at allotment. If you placed more than one bid against the same PAN, ask the registrar which bid, if any, was considered.

If there was no allotment and the money is still blocked
SEBI’s UPI-ASBA FAQ says the block should be removed when there is no allotment. If it remains, raise the issue through the UPI app or contact the bank/SCSB, registrar, merchant banker, or intermediary that handled the application. The appropriate first contact is the party that can trace the step in question: the UPI channel or bank for the block, and the registrar or submitting intermediary for the application record.
Have these details ready so the recipient can trace the request:

If money was debited but no shares were allotted
Check the registrar’s result first, then report the discrepancy through the UPI app or to the bank, registrar, merchant banker, or application intermediary. State the exact amount and debit date, and attach the bank or UPI transaction record. If the debit exceeds the value of the shares allotted, include the unique mandate number and application details so the payment can be checked against the allocation.
If the UPI mandate never arrived
Look in the UPI app’s pending-request or mandate area and confirm the status with the member through which you placed the bid. NSE advises investors to contact that member if a mandate does not arrive. Its FAQ describes a one-time re-initiation by the member during the issue period, subject to the system process. Because the issue window and cutoffs apply, contact the member promptly; do not assume a mandate can be re-sent after the issue closes.
If allotment is confirmed but shares are missing from demat
Verify the beneficiary and demat account details stated in the application. IPO shares are allotted in demat form, and a UPI debit notification is separate from allotment communication. If the registrar confirms allotment but the shares are not visible after the date in the issue’s published schedule, contact the registrar and your DP with the allotment record and account details. There is no single universal credit interval established for every IPO, so use the schedule for that issue rather than assuming a fixed number of hours.

Start with the entity responsible for the problem: typically the registrar for allotment status, the bank or UPI channel for a block or debit, or the intermediary that submitted the bid. Keep the complaint reference and copies of the application, allotment result, mandate information, and transaction records.
If the securities-market grievance remains unresolved, approach the concerned entity’s grievance contact first, then lodge a complaint through SEBI’s SCORES portal. The current SCORES FAQ gives an entity 21 calendar days to submit an Action Taken Report; if you are dissatisfied, you may seek first-level review within 15 calendar days from that report. SCORES facilitates grievance redressal; it does not guarantee reversal, allotment, or compensation.
