That makes Formex a credible alternative for some value-conscious buyers, but it is not a like-for-like local price comparison or evidence of customer migration.
What Tudor’s price increases do—and do not—show
WatchCharts’ January 2026 update reports an average Tudor retail-price increase of 7.4% across the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan. The figure is a simple average of changes in those five markets, not a universal increase for every model or country. In the same comparison, Rolex averaged 6.2%. Another estimate illustrates why it matters to keep geography and methodology attached to a percentage: WatchPro reported average Tudor increases of 5.6% in the United States and 5.8% in the United Kingdom for January 2026. Those figures should not be blended with WatchCharts’ five-market average. WatchPro’s report gives its separate estimates.
A higher list price can make alternatives look relatively more attractive, especially to buyers with a fixed budget. It does not establish that Tudor customers are leaving, that Formex has gained market share, or that Tudor’s increases caused any buyer to change brands. No figures here measure Tudor-to-Formex switching.

What the Formex comparison can establish
Price: an indication, not a matched comparison
Formex’s official catalog lists displayed Essence ThirtyNine variants at CHF 1,470–1,570. These are Swiss-franc catalog prices, not a current, tax-inclusive comparison with a Tudor reference in the buyer’s local market. The final difference depends on the exact Tudor model, country, taxes, bracelet or strap configuration, and whether the buyer pays list price or a different transaction price. Check both brands’ current local listings before treating the gap as a personal-finance saving. Formex’s catalog is the source for its displayed range.
Specifications: a capable everyday-watch example
Formex lists the Essence ThirtyNine Space Glacier with a 39 mm case, 10 mm height, 45 mm lug-to-lug, 100 m water resistance and a stated 41-hour power reserve. The page specifies a COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, quick-release strap system and adjustable clasp. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparative testing. Formex also describes post-assembly rate testing as its own practice; that claim should be understood as the brand’s statement. The product page contains the model’s listed details.

This evidence supports a concrete case for considering the Essence ThirtyNine, but not a full technical verdict against a particular Tudor. Tudor’s official press room lists the Black Bay 58 among its collections, as well as the Black Bay 54, Pelagos, Ranger and other families. Without a matched Tudor reference, current local price and verified technical sheet, a brand-wide specification table would imply more than the available comparison supports. How to decide whether the price gap matters to you
Compare actual watches and purchase terms rather than treating brand names or percentage increases as a budget. A practical comparison should include:

- Out-the-door price: Check the exact reference and configuration in your country, including tax, bracelet or strap, shipping, and any discount. Separate official retail price from the price a seller is actually offering.
- Fit and daily use: Compare diameter, thickness, lug-to-lug length, weight, bracelet sizing and clasp adjustment. A listed case diameter alone cannot tell you how a watch wears.
- Movement and certification: Verify the movement, stated power reserve, and whether a certification such as COSC or METAS applies to the exact reference. Certification scope is not interchangeable with a general claim of accuracy.
- Features: Match the use case—such as a diver, travel watch or everyday watch—and check water resistance, bezel or timing functions, and legibility on the specific models.
- Ownership costs and access: Check warranty terms, service route, local after-sales support and stock. An independent brand may suit a buyer who prioritizes specifications per unit of spend; a buyer may instead value the established-brand experience and its local service access.
- Resale assumptions: Treat resale as uncertain, not as a reason to assume a price rise will protect the purchase.
Why a higher retail price does not guarantee resale value
WatchCharts says average value retention among the major brands it tracks was lower in January 2026 than two years earlier, and that the latest increases lowered retention figures for most brands in its sample. Its analysis is sample- and index-based, not a census of every Tudor transaction. The practical point is that a higher manufacturer list price does not automatically translate into an equivalent increase in second-hand value. Swiss watch exports offer broad context, not a verdict on Tudor or Formex demand. The Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reported that exports rose 9.2% year over year to CHF 2.2 billion in February 2026, with a positive base effect contributing alongside growth in three major markets. For watches in the export-price category above CHF 3,000, February changes were +8.4% in units and +8.9% in value. Export-price categories are not retail price brackets, and the figures do not identify sales or customer movement for either brand. The Federation’s February 2026 release explains the export data.

Longer-run figures also show why one month should not be treated as a market trend: WatchPro reported that 14.6 million Swiss watches were exported in 2025, with total value of CHF 25.6 billion; volume was down 4.8% and value down 1.7% year over year.
