To evaluate HPE stock, look past revenue growth and assess whether margins, balance-sheet capacity, and cash generation support it. HPE’s third-quarter fiscal 2026 results, for the quarter ended July 31, 2026, showed sharp revenue growth and improved profitability, while fiscal 2025 provides a reminder that annual margins and cash flow can move in the opposite direction. These figures help frame the company’s financial performance; they do not establish whether the shares are attractively valued.
Start with comparable periods and definitions
Use the same fiscal period when comparing results, and distinguish reported figures from management-adjusted measures. HPE’s Q3 FY2026 filing reports results for both the quarter and the first nine months. Its FY2025 Form 10-K supplies annual context. The latest figures here are as of July 31, 2026; check HPE’s investor-relations filings for any subsequent results or material changes before relying on them.
Dollar figures below are U.S. dollars. Quarterly revenue is stated at the financial-statement precision; HPE’s earnings release rounded it to $12.2 billion and described growth as 34%.
Revenue: identify what is driving growth
HPE reported Q3 FY2026 revenue of $12.213 billion, up 33.7% from $9.136 billion a year earlier. For the first nine months of FY2026, revenue was $32.192 billion, up 30.8% from $24.617 billion. These are reported growth rates, not proof that the same pace will continue. Segment mix and acquisition effects matter when interpreting them. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

Read the segment mix alongside the total
HPE’s Q3 segment results show where revenue growth was concentrated:
| Business or product category | Q3 FY2026 revenue | Year-over-year change |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud & AI | $9.0 billion | +25.4% |
| Server | $6.8 billion | +35.3% |
| Storage | $1.3 billion | +10.2% |
| Financial Services | $0.9 billion | -0.3% |
| Networking | $2.9 billion | +74.9% |
Networking’s reported growth was particularly strong. Within Networking, Campus & Branch revenue was $1.4 billion, up 31.0%; Data Center Networking was $382 million, up 112.2%; Security was $281 million, up 75.6%; and Routing was $788 million, up 270.0%. These category figures explain the quarter’s mix, but one quarter does not establish the durability of a growth rate. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

Account for acquisition effects
Reported growth and normalized comparisons answer different questions. HPE’s Q3 presentation says its normalized Networking comparison includes eight months of pre-acquisition Juniper Networks results. When using that comparison, label it as normalized and keep it separate from reported growth rather than treating the two rates as interchangeable. HPE FY2026 Q3 earnings presentation
Margins: separate GAAP from adjusted results
For Q3 FY2026, HPE reported a GAAP gross margin of 40.1%, up 10.9 percentage points year over year and 3.6 points sequentially. GAAP operating margin was 11.4%, up 8.7 points year over year and 4.4 points sequentially. On a non-GAAP basis, gross margin was 40.4% and operating margin was 16.2%; those measures were up 10.5 and 7.7 points year over year, respectively. The sequential increases in non-GAAP gross and operating margin were 3.5 and 2.9 points. Always compare the same margin definition and period. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results

Non-GAAP results are not interchangeable with GAAP results. HPE’s reconciliations add back specified items, including intangible-asset amortization, stock-based compensation, cost-reduction program costs, and acquisition, disposition, and other charges. Review the reconciliation and consider whether adjustments recur before interpreting adjusted profitability as a durable earnings trend. HPE attributed its record non-GAAP gross margin in part to pricing discipline and favorable mix; that is management’s explanation, not an independent assessment. Use segment margins to investigate the consolidated result
In Q3 FY2026, Cloud & AI’s segment operating margin was 17.0%, compared with 7.0% a year earlier. Networking’s was 22.0%, compared with 22.1%. Corporate Investments and Other reported a negative 24.1%, compared with negative 7.0%. For the first nine months, Cloud & AI’s segment margin was 13.6%, up from 7.3%; Networking’s was 22.4%, down from 25.1%. Segment operating margins are not the same as consolidated GAAP operating margin, so use them to understand business mix rather than substitute them for the company-wide measure. Debt and liquidity: use the balance-sheet date
At July 31, 2026, HPE reported $2.901 billion in notes payable and short-term borrowings, $17.343 billion in long-term debt, and $6.216 billion in cash and cash equivalents. Adding the two debt lines gives $20.244 billion of gross debt. Subtracting the stated cash balance gives approximately $14.028 billion of debt less cash. This is a simple calculation from selected balance-sheet lines—not an HPE-reported net-debt measure or a complete assessment of liquidity. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results
For historical context, HPE’s FY2025 Form 10-K reported total debt of $22.365 billion and cash, cash equivalents, and restricted cash of $5.859 billion at October 31, 2025. The cash line differs in definition from the Q3 FY2026 cash-and-cash-equivalents figure, so treat the dated line items as context rather than a perfectly like-for-like comparison. These figures alone do not establish debt maturities, covenants, refinancing terms, or credit-rating implications. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K

Cash flow: check what remains after investment
HPE reported Q3 FY2026 operating cash flow of $1.6 billion and free cash flow (FCF) of $958 million. For the first nine months through July 31, operating cash flow was $4.229 billion and FCF was $2.581 billion. HPE defines FCF as operating cash flow less net capital expenditures and provides a reconciliation that includes investment in property, plant and equipment and software assets, asset-sale proceeds, and exchange-rate effects. FCF is a company-defined non-GAAP measure; use HPE’s definition when comparing it with another period or company. HPE FY2026 Q3 financial results HPE FY2025 Form 10-K
Compare the annual trend and working capital
| Fiscal year | Operating cash flow | Free cash flow |
|---|---|---|
| FY2024 | $4.341 billion | $2.297 billion |
| FY2025 | $2.919 billion | $986 million |
HPE said the FY2025 operating-cash-flow decline was primarily due to unfavorable working capital, largely resulting from the timing of vendor payments. That explanation is management’s attribution. For an investor, the distinction matters: assess whether cash flow is consistently supported by operations or affected by timing and other working-capital movements. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K
Put the strong quarter against the annual baseline
FY2025 shows why a single quarter should not stand in for a full cycle. For the year ended October 31, 2025, HPE reported revenue of $34.296 billion, gross profit of $10.377 billion, gross margin of 30.3%, an operating loss of $437 million, and operating margin of negative 1.3%. Revenue grew 13.8% from FY2024, when revenue was $30.127 billion; FY2024 gross margin was 32.8% and operating margin was 7.3%. HPE attributed FY2025 revenue growth primarily to higher Networking revenue from the merger and higher average unit prices in Server. It attributed the gross-margin decline to higher cost of sales in Server, Networking, and Hybrid Cloud, and the operating-margin decline to goodwill impairment and merger costs. HPE FY2025 Form 10-K
The contrast with Q3 FY2026’s improved margins is useful, but it does not demonstrate that the quarterly levels will persist. Consider the cause of each change, the adjustments excluded from non-GAAP figures, and performance across more than one reporting period.

Build a stock evaluation without overclaiming
Financial statements help evaluate operating performance and financial risk; they do not alone answer whether HPE stock is a buy or whether its price is attractive. A complete stock decision also requires current share price and valuation, financing details, and the investor’s own time horizon and risk tolerance. The figures above do not establish a current valuation, debt maturity schedule, credit rating, or later dividend status.
