Airbus SE is publicly held, with minority stakes linked to France, Germany and Spain. As of 31 December 2025, France held 10.83% of its share capital, Germany-linked GZBV held 10.82%, and Spain held 4.08%. No one government owned a majority. Airbus reported the figures in its FY2025 board report; they are a dated snapshot, not live ownership data.

These are Airbus-published percentages in its FY2025 board report. The three state-linked stakes total 25.73% of share capital and 25.90% of voting rights. The public category is the largest reported category; it is not a single shareholder.
Is Airbus owned by France?
No. France has a substantial minority stake through SOGEPA, but its 10.83% share of capital at 31 December 2025 is far short of a majority. Airbus is publicly held, with state-linked holdings from France, Germany and Spain alongside the public category and other shareholders.

How the German holding works
GZBV’s 10.82% stake is not the same as KfW’s individual interest. KfW reported an approximate 9.12% indirect interest in Airbus through GZBV as of 31 December 2025; GZBV’s total includes other investors as well. KfW’s SEC filing says the investment was made “at the Federal Republic’s economic risk” and that its opportunities and risks lie with the Federal Republic. That statement appears in KfW’s disclosure of investments made under a special federal mandate; KfW holds its Airbus interest indirectly through GZBV.
Why share capital and voting rights differ
The government-linked percentages are slightly higher when measured by voting rights than by share capital. Airbus also reported 5,055,938 treasury shares, equal to 0.64% of issued capital, as of 31 December 2025. Those shares carried no voting rights. As a result, the share-capital and voting-right percentages should not be treated as interchangeable.

What the stakes mean for governance
Airbus’ FY2025 report identifies the SOGEPA, GZBV and SEPI holdings as subject to a shareholders’ agreement. That is relevant governance context, but the stakes alone do not establish that any one government controls Airbus. Ownership percentages describe economic holdings and voting rights; they do not, by themselves, settle how influence is exercised in company decisions.

The present ownership structure reflects Airbus’ cross-European origins, but it is distinct from the company’s founding history. Airbus says EADS was created in July 2000 through the merger of France’s Aerospatiale Matra, Germany’s DASA and Spain’s CASA. Its share-price and information page also describes the ownership figures as quarterly updated, so a newer disclosure may differ from the year-end 2025 snapshot used here.
