Sauce turned Education Secretary Linda McMahon’s apparent mix-up of “AI” and “A1” into a brand joke: “You heard her. Every school should have access to A.1.” The condiment brand posted the line on Instagram on April 10, 2025, two days after McMahon spoke at the ASU+GSV Summit.
What Linda McMahon said at the education summit
At the ASU+GSV Summit on April 8, 2025, McMahon first referred to “AI development,” then used the phrases “A1 teaching” and “A1” while discussing technology and education, according to USA TODAY’s report, published April 12 and updated April 14, 2025. The report presented the later wording as a verbal mix-up between artificial intelligence, commonly shortened to AI, and A.1., the steak-sauce brand.
How A.1. Sauce turned the wording into a punchline
On April 10, A.1. Sauce posted on Instagram: “You heard her. Every school should have access to A.1.” The post image also said, “Agree, best to start them early,” USA TODAY reported. The joke rests on the resemblance between “A1” and the condiment’s name; A.1. Original Steak Sauce is the product behind the reference, not a teaching or classroom product.
The brand manager’s response
Holland Robinson, A.1. brand manager, told USA TODAY in an emailed statement: “While ‘A.1.’ becoming the unexpected star of a panel on the future of education certainly wasn’t on our 2025 bingo card, when the moment was served up like a juicy steak, how could we not bite on it?”

What the episode does—and does not—establish
The reported sequence is straightforward: McMahon said “AI development,” later used “A1 teaching” and “A1,” and the sauce brand responded with a social-media joke. The coverage does not provide a measured audience, engagement figure, or impact statistic for the post, so claims about its reach should not be treated as quantified results. Nor does the brand’s response establish an education product or a business partnership; it documents a joke tied to the brand name.
