First, find out whether the delay is at the sending exchange, on the blockchain, or at the receiving exchange. Check the withdrawal status and transaction ID (TxID), then use the correct network’s explorer to see whether the transfer was broadcast and how many confirmations it has. A sender’s “Completed” or “Success” status does not by itself mean the receiving account has credited the funds.
Trace the transfer through its three stages
A crypto transfer can be delayed at different points, and each calls for a different next step:
- Sending exchange processing: The platform may still be reviewing or processing the withdrawal. It might not yet have broadcast a transaction.
- Blockchain confirmation: After broadcast, the transaction must be processed by the network and gain confirmations.
- Receiving exchange credit: The destination platform applies its own deposit requirements and account checks before making funds available.
These stages explain why a withdrawal marked “Success” or “Completed” at the sender can still be missing from the recipient account. Coinbase and Binance direct users to inspect transaction details or the TxID to check the on-chain status (Coinbase; Binance).
What to do, in order
1. Check the sender’s withdrawal record
Open the sending exchange’s withdrawal or transaction history. Note the exact status, any displayed error, and whether a TxID or transaction hash is available. Status names and meanings vary by platform. Kraken, for example, lists Initiated, Pending, Sending, Success, On hold, and Failed; its current status guide describes Initiated and Pending as internal processing stages, while Sending means the transaction has been broadcast and is awaiting a blockchain confirmation (Kraken).

2. If there is no TxID, check for a sender-side hold
Without a TxID, the transfer may still be in the exchange’s internal workflow or payment-gateway processing. Check the exchange’s service-status notices and the instructions attached to the withdrawal. If it says On hold or Failed, follow the platform’s official support route and any error-specific guidance. Do not apply another exchange’s status definitions or timing to yours.
3. If there is a TxID, inspect it on the correct network
Open a blockchain explorer for the network used to send the asset and search the TxID. Check whether the transaction is pending, confirmed, or rejected, and note its confirmation count. Make sure the explorer matches the network—not just the asset name. The sender’s transaction details or help page can point you to the relevant network information.

4. For a missing deposit, verify what the destination received
Compare the withdrawal details with the receiving exchange’s deposit instructions for that specific asset. Verify the network and deposit address, and check whether the asset requires a memo or tag. Then review the receiving account’s deposit history and any alerts or account-review notices. Coinbase warns that unsupported assets or networks may not be credited automatically; recovery options depend on the case (Coinbase).
5. Compare confirmations with the receiving exchange’s requirement
Exchanges set confirmation thresholds that can differ by asset, network, and platform. Look up the receiving exchange’s current requirement for the exact asset and network; a pending deposit may simply need more confirmations. Coinbase Exchange publishes currency-specific confirmation requirements (Coinbase Exchange). Kraken also distinguishes Credited—when trading may be available but withdrawals are not—from Successful, when withdrawals are available (Kraken).

6. If confirmed but uncredited, contact the receiving exchange
When the explorer shows the transaction is confirmed but the receiving account still does not show the deposit, contact the destination platform through its official support flow. Include the TxID, asset, network, amount, destination address, and a link or screenshot of the explorer result. Binance’s guidance directs users to the destination platform when a confirmed blockchain transfer has not been credited there (Binance).
How long should you wait?
There is no reliable universal waiting time: exchange processing, network conditions, asset, and destination confirmation rules all affect the result. The published estimates below describe particular platforms and stages, not a guarantee for other transfers:

- Kraken’s Classic withdrawal guide estimates up to 10 minutes for its Initiated and Pending processing stages; the total time also depends on internal processing and the destination’s confirmation requirements (Kraken).
- Coinbase says a particular class of sync-related delays is usually under an hour. That statement applies to the delay type described on its help page, not every pending deposit (Coinbase).
Use the status and TxID to identify the stage rather than relying on an estimate as a deadline.

- The transaction has not yet reached the receiving platform’s required number of confirmations.
- An exchange node has temporarily lost synchronization.
- A transaction was rejected because of a stale block.
- An unconfirmed transaction may be affected by a low transaction fee.
The TxID, network, and platform status are needed to narrow down what happened. A low-fee explanation, for example, is relevant to some unconfirmed transactions; it is not evidence that any particular transfer is delayed for that reason (Coinbase; Kraken).
Can you cancel a delayed withdrawal?
Cancellation depends on the sending exchange’s workflow and the transfer’s status. Kraken says a cancellation request is available only while a withdrawal is Initiated or Pending, and a request made while Pending is not guaranteed to succeed. Once a transaction has been broadcast, it may be waiting for blockchain confirmation; do not assume it can be reversed or canceled. Check your own exchange’s current instructions before taking action (Kraken).
