Microsoft’s latest Xbox console price increase took effect worldwide on August 1, 2026. The company announced increases of US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models, citing higher memory and storage costs—not tariffs. The change follows a U.S. increase of $20–$70 the previous October, according to Microsoft.
How much did Xbox prices go up?
Microsoft announced that 512 GB Xbox console models would rise by US$100 and 1 TB models by US$150. It also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. These are the announced changes, not a verified live U.S. price list; Microsoft’s current store listings and prices can change.
The company said U.S. console prices had already increased by $20–$70 the previous October. That range is Microsoft’s description of the earlier increase, not a model-by-model price comparison.
When did the new Xbox prices take effect?
Microsoft announced the change on June 25, 2026, and said the new prices would take effect worldwide on August 1, 2026. The announcement applies globally; the earlier $20–$70 increase it cites was specific to the United States.

Why did Xbox raise console prices again?
Microsoft attributed the increase to higher component costs. In its June 25 announcement, the company said console storage and memory prices had risen by more than 2.5 times and forecast another doubling by fall 2027. Those figures and the forecast are Microsoft’s statements, not independently verified market measurements.
Microsoft also described a broader consumer-electronics component crisis that it said was particularly difficult for console makers. Its announcement is the clearest source for the company’s stated reason for this increase.

Did tariffs cause the latest Xbox price increase?
Microsoft’s June 2026 announcement does not say tariffs caused the increase. It names memory and storage costs as the reason. The title’s reference to Trump-era tariff uncertainty should therefore be understood as broader context, not as an established explanation for this particular decision. The announcement does not establish that tariffs caused the earlier U.S. increase either.
Which Xbox configurations are affected?
Microsoft’s store describes Series S as a disc-free console offered with 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD storage. Series X is offered with a UHD Blu-ray disc drive or in a disc-free configuration, with 1 TB or 2 TB SSD options. Because Microsoft said it would sunset the 2 TB model, its current availability should be checked rather than assumed.

For a purchase comparison, check the exact storage capacity, whether the console has a disc drive, and whether the listing is for a new, certified refurbished, or previously played unit. Microsoft’s Xbox store lists configurations and live inventory; prices and availability may change.
Is a refurbished Xbox cheaper?
Microsoft said certified refurbished consoles were available through Microsoft Stores for up to US$100 off MSRP. This is a maximum discount stated in the June 25, 2026 announcement, not a guaranteed discount on every model or a current offer. Microsoft also said it was working with retail partners on a previously played console program. The announcement did not name participating retailers or confirm current availability, so buyers should not assume that this program is available in a particular store.

- Compare the current price with the exact model and storage configuration; the announced increases do not establish today’s shelf price.
- Confirm whether you need a disc drive. Series S is disc-free; Series X has both disc-drive and disc-free configurations.
- Check whether a 2 TB console is actually in stock, given Microsoft’s announced plan to sunset that model.
- For refurbished or previously played consoles, review the seller, condition description, warranty, return terms, and final price before paying.
Microsoft’s announcement and its stated rationale are available in Xbox Wire’s June 25, 2026 price update.
