U.S. farm tractor unit sales fell 14.5% in November 2024 compared with November 2023, according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM). AEM reported 11,003 tractors sold in November 2024, down from 12,876 a year earlier. The figure is for November 2024—not November 2025—and measures preliminary retail unit sales reported by AEM member companies.
What the 14.5% decline measures
The year-over-year comparison is between U.S. farm tractor units sold at retail in November 2024 and November 2023. AEM describes its monthly figures as preliminary retail sales data from member companies; they are not dollar revenue, orders, production, or a census of every tractor transaction in the country. AEM’s November 2024 report was released December 10, 2024.
In practical terms, the reported total was 1,873 fewer tractors than in November 2023. The percentage is a comparison of unit counts, not a measure of how much manufacturers’ or dealers’ revenues changed.
November sales by tractor class
The decline varied considerably across the classes in AEM’s report:

Among these listed categories, the steepest percentage declines were in 4WD and 2WD tractors rated 100 hp and above. Under-40-hp 2WD tractors had the smallest decline. These category figures describe sales volume; they do not by themselves show why buyers purchased fewer units.
Year-to-date sales were also lower
Through November 2024, AEM reported 200,138 U.S. farm tractors sold, down 13.4% from 231,089 through November 2023. The year-to-date comparison shows the decline extended beyond November, though it does not establish how the market would finish the full year.

What AEM said about the slowdown
Curt Blades, AEM senior vice president, attributed the November slowdown to “high interest rates and uncertainty in the overall ag economy.” That is Blades’s explanation of the sales results, not proof that either factor alone caused the decline. Successful Farming’s December 11, 2024 coverage reported the breakdown and his comment.
Do not confuse this with November 2025
The 14.5% headline belongs to the November 2024 year-over-year comparison. AEM later reported that total U.S. tractor sales in November 2025 were down 19.6% compared with November 2024. That is a separate reporting period and a different annual comparison, not an update to the 14.5% figure. AEM’s November 2025 report gives that later result.
