But as of the company’s September 4, 2026 statement, U.S. entry is a longer-term ambition still under assessment—not a confirmed launch with a date, lineup, or dealer agreement. CUPRA’s more specific plan, announced in November 2024, aimed for entry by the end of the decade; the newer statement does not repeat that target.
What is SEAT S.A.’s current plan for the U.S.?
SEAT S.A. is the company behind both SEAT and CUPRA. Its latest public framing located here, a September 4, 2026 strategy statement, says the company is focusing through 2030 on taking CUPRA to its full potential while continuing to assess strategic opportunities in other markets, including the longer-term ambition to enter the United States. The statement does not say the U.S. plan is cancelled, but it also does not confirm a launch date or reaffirm the earlier end-of-decade target. SEAT S.A.’s September 2026 strategy statement
That distinction matters: the public plan has shifted from a dated intention to a longer-term possibility. There is no confirmed U.S. headquarters, launch-state list, sales forecast, or named American-market model in the latest statement.
What did CUPRA announce in 2024?
On November 22, 2024, CUPRA said it intended to enter the U.S. by the end of the decade, in key states aligned with the brand. The announcement described the expansion as a milestone in CUPRA’s goal of becoming a global brand and placed it between mass-market and premium segments, with a design- and performance-led identity. It also stressed that success would require a strong distribution and retail strategy. CUPRA’s November 2024 U.S. announcement

- Dark grey metallic paint with neon green racing graphics and lightning motifs for a modern electric motorsport look
- Extremely deep racing structure with wide front, pronounced front splitter and aerodynamically optimised body
- Distinctive rear wing and diffuser-accented rear for authentic touring car look and high-performance character
- Black racing rims with wide slick tyres - perfectly matched to the aggressive racing silhouette
- Realistic design based on the real Cupra e-Racer - modern next generation electric touring car
Wayne Griffiths, then CUPRA CEO, said the company had “great respect for the U.S. market,” adding that strong distribution and retail were essential. That helps explain why CUPRA discussed a local retail partner rather than simply naming a launch date and opening its own stores.
Is CUPRA working with Penske?
Not under a publicly confirmed agreement in the statements cited here. CUPRA said in 2024 that it had begun preliminary discussions with Penske Automotive Group to explore a possible partnership. It cited Penske’s distribution network and Volkswagen Group experience as relevant. The September 2026 statement does not report a deal, and preliminary talks should not be treated as a confirmed dealer network.

For a U.S. launch, the practical consequences would be significant: retail locations, servicing, parts supply, and customer support would all need to be established. CUPRA has not publicly identified the states or stores that might handle those functions.
Which CUPRA models could be sold in the U.S.?
No U.S. lineup has been confirmed. The 2024 announcement anticipated a mix of internal-combustion (ICE), plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and battery-electric (BEV) vehicles. It mentioned Ateca, Leon, Formentor, Born, Tavascan, Terramar, and the then-upcoming Raval when describing CUPRA’s broader portfolio, but did not assign any of them to a U.S. launch.

That historical description does not make it a confirmed American-market vehicle. Until CUPRA names models and U.S. specifications, there is no reliable basis for comparing its future U.S. prices, equipment, or performance with vehicles already sold here.
Could CUPRA cars be built in North America?
The 2024 plan raised a possibility, not an approved production program: CUPRA said one model could be produced at a Volkswagen Group factory in North America, using Brand Group Core synergies. It did not name the vehicle, factory, production schedule, or whether the plan remains active. The statement should not be read as confirmation that any CUPRA model will be built in the region.

- ACE-1 Roof Cross Bars are produced in custom dimensions according to vehicle make–model–year for vehicles with a gap between the roof rails and the roof (raised rail). The product title should be considered; it is not universal.
- COMPATIBLE MOUNTING STRUCTURE The mounting structure is designed to adapt to the position and angle of the roof rails. This helps distribute the load evenly at mounting points, supports driving stability, and reduces road-induced vibrations.
- LOAD CAPACITY The aluminum bars can carry up to 75 kg while driving. When parked: 150 kg with 2 bars, 225 kg with 3 bars, and 300 kg with 4 bars provide suitable load support.
- WIDE ACCESSORY COMPATIBILITY Can be used with accessory systems compatible with T-Bolt or U-Type mounting bolts with a minimum width of 75 mm.
- LOCKABLE & EASY INSTALLATION Equipped with a deterrent locking mechanism against unauthorized removal. Installation can be completed within 15–25 minutes without professional assistance using vehicle-specific mounting kits. Made in Türkiye. 8689506550084
Why is the U.S. entry still uncertain?
SEAT S.A.’s September 2026 statement describes an industry facing stronger competition, regulatory pressure, different speeds of electrification, and cost pressure. It says the company is keeping strategic options open as its industrial role within Volkswagen Group grows, while CUPRA remains its growth driver. The company said its focus through 2030 is taking CUPRA to its full potential.
Separately, SEAT & CUPRA’s March 12, 2026 update reported 2025 turnover of €15.3 billion, up 5.1% year over year, and deliveries of 586,300 vehicles, also up 5.1%. The company reported PHEV deliveries grew 62.9% and BEV deliveries grew 65.9% in 2025. These are global company figures, not U.S. sales projections. The update cited electrification transformation costs, one-time effects, competition, product costs, and countervailing duties on the CUPRA Tavascan among pressures on performance; it did not say those factors caused a change in U.S. timing. - VEHICLE-SPECIFIC PRODUCTION The ACE-2 Model Cross Bars are manufactured in vehicle-specific dimensions based on brand–model–year for vehicles with notched roof rails. Not a universal product.
- ADAPTIVE MOVING MOUNTING BRACKET The mounting structure is designed to adapt to the angle of the roof rail, providing balanced installation support with approximately 5° horizontal and 3° vertical movement tolerance.
- 75 KG DRIVING / 150 KG PARKED LOAD SUPPORT Suitable for loads up to 75 kg (165 lbs) while driving within manufacturer and legal limits, and provides appropriate infrastructure for up to 150 kg (330 lbs) when the vehicle is parked.
- WIDE ACCESSORY COMPATIBILITY Compatible with accessories using T-Bolt systems or U-Type mounting bolts with a minimum width of 75 mm.
- LOCKABLE & EASY INSTALLATION Equipped with a deterrent locking mechanism against unauthorized removal. Installation can be completed within 15–25 minutes without professional assistance using vehicle-specific mounting kits.
The same update said SEAT & CUPRA had invested €6.2 billion since 2020, including €1.3 billion in capital expenditure and research and development in 2025, and set a 6% return-on-sales ambition for 2030. Those are company-wide figures and a corporate target, not announced U.S.-market spending or a forecast for a launch. The reasonable inference is that a U.S. entry sits within CUPRA’s broader international growth ambition, while near-term execution and timing remain unsettled; the company has not stated that this is the reason for its current wording.
What would need to be announced before shoppers can plan for CUPRA?
- A firm U.S. launch date and the states or markets included.
- The models, powertrains, specifications, and prices intended for U.S. sale.
- A confirmed retail and service arrangement, including whether Penske is involved.
- Any approved North American production plan, with a named model and facility.
Until those details appear in a company announcement, the 2024 product mix, Penske discussions, and possible regional production should be understood as elements of the original plan, not current consumer-ready commitments. The cited company statements provide no quantified U.S. demand estimate or independent market study.
