Those are compound-return scenarios, not price forecasts. To more than double before taxes and fees, the investment would need to grow at more than about 14.87% a year for five years.
What the five-year scenarios show
Because no one can know Alphabet’s share price five years from now, the table below illustrates how different annualized total returns would affect a $1,000 investment. It assumes dividends are reinvested and the stated return compounds consistently each year.
| Assumed annualized total return | Value after five years | Gain over $1,000 |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | About $1,276 | About $276 |
| 10% | About $1,611 | About $611 |
| 15% | About $2,011 | About $1,011 |
These values use the formula $1,000 × (1 + assumed annualized return)5. They exclude taxes and fees, and are arithmetic illustrations—not forecasts, analyst price targets, or estimates of how likely any outcome is. They use total return with dividends reinvested, not share-price appreciation alone.
What it takes to more than double
For $1,000 to become more than $2,000 in five years, it must earn more than about 14.87% annualized, before taxes and fees. That figure is the mathematical threshold for doubling over this period; it does not indicate that Alphabet will reach it. A 15% annualized return would put the modeled value just above $2,000, at about $2,011.

What Alphabet’s recent results do—and do not—tell investors
Alphabet’s results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 showed strong business growth: consolidated revenue was $119.8 billion, up 24% year over year, while Google Cloud revenue was $24.8 billion, up 82%. Operating income rose 30%, and operating margin expanded by two percentage points to 34%. Alphabet’s Q2 2026 results release also reported a $98.0 billion net gain primarily due to net unrealized gains on equity securities. That investment-related gain can affect reported net income, but it is not the same as recurring growth in operating performance.
CEO Sundar Pichai said the quarter’s growth was driven by demand for AI infrastructure and AI solutions. The results offer context about the business at that point in time, but quarterly revenue growth does not translate directly into a stock’s future return. Share prices also reflect expectations and can move for reasons that do not match a company’s latest operating results.

Risks that can change the outcome
Alphabet’s latest located quarterly filing describes its businesses as Google Services, Google Cloud, Other Bets, and Alphabet-level activities. It warns that risks and uncertainties could harm the company’s business, reputation, financial condition, operating results, and stock-price performance or volatility. The filing also says investments in new businesses, products, services, and technologies—including AI infrastructure and products—are inherently risky. Alphabet’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 provides the company’s disclosures.
Alphabet’s fiscal 2025 annual filing cautions that its historical stock-return comparison is not intended to suggest future performance. Past returns, recent growth, and a hypothetical compound-return calculation cannot guarantee what an investor will earn. Alphabet’s 2025 Form 10-K includes that historical-return disclosure.

What the calculation leaves out
- Taxes and fees: The modeled ending values are before either, so an investor’s actual proceeds could be lower.
- Share-price changes: The scenario assumes an annualized total return; it does not predict a future share price or say how many shares $1,000 would buy today.
- Share class: Alphabet has multiple common-stock classes, including GOOG and GOOGL. The scenarios model a $1,000 investment in one class at the starting point; they do not compare the classes or use a live quote.
- Dividend treatment: The table assumes dividends are reinvested. Alphabet’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q says a quarterly cash dividend of $0.22 per Class A, Class B, and Class C common share was declared in July 2026; future dividends and reinvestment terms are not assured.
