Flextronics opened a new Industrial Park in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary, on April 28, 1999, according to trade publication EDN. The company said the approximately 80-acre site would house a 215,300-square-foot manufacturing facility, with production focused on electronics assembly and several computer and consumer-electronics products. EDN reported that the opening was expected to create up to 1,000 local jobs; that was a forecast, not a confirmed eventual job count.
What Flextronics opened in Hungary
EDN’s April 28, 1999 report described the Zalaegerszeg development as Flextronics’ second Hungarian site and called it an Industrial Park. The report gave the site’s area as approximately 80 acres and the manufacturing facility’s floor area as 215,300 square feet. Those measurements are figures reported at the time, not independently verified current measurements.
In this context, “Industrial Park” referred to a manufacturing arrangement in which suppliers were co-located with the company’s operations. EDN said Flextronics pursued this model in lower-cost manufacturing regions near major markets, aiming to integrate the supply chain, reduce production costs, and shorten time to market.
What the Zalaegerszeg factory planned to make
EDN reported that the factory would focus on printed circuit board and systems assembly. The planned products included:

How many jobs were expected
The 1999 report said the facility was expected to create up to 1,000 new local jobs. This is an estimate reported around the opening, not evidence that 1,000 jobs were ultimately created.
How the 1999 opening fits with later activity
Flex’s Hungarian subsidiary report for the year ended March 31, 2025, lists two production plants and an R&D base in Zalaegerszeg. That establishes later company activity in the city, but does not establish that the listed facilities are identical to the site described in 1999.

Later investment announcements concern different projects and should not be confused with the 1999 opening:

These later figures describe separate projects, not revised totals for the 1999 facility. Separately, LEGO’s company history says Flextronics produced LEGO products at sites in Sárvár and Nyíregyháza during 2006–2008; LEGO acquired the Nyíregyháza factory in 2008. Those locations are distinct from Zalaegerszeg.
