Silver Prices on October 5, 2026: Futures Rose in Early Trading, but Quotes Varied

Yahoo reported December silver futures at $62.19 per troy ounce at 7:19 a.m. ET on October 5, 2026. Later spot and daily benchmark-attributed figures were different observations, not one universal closing price.

On Monday, October 5, 2026, Yahoo Finance reported that December silver futures opened at $60.70 per troy ounce and were at $62.19 at 7:19 a.m. ET. That was a rise from the reported open, but it does not establish that silver rose steadily through the full session. Later spot and daily benchmark-attributed figures used different quote conventions and showed different values.

What did silver cost on October 5?

There was no single interchangeable “silver price” in the available October 5 observations. The figures below are in U.S. dollars per troy ounce, but refer to different instruments, quote types, and times.

Source and observation Price What it represents
Yahoo Finance, December silver futures open, Oct. 5 $60.70 Futures opening price; Yahoo reported it was up 0.5% from the preceding Friday close.
Yahoo Finance, December silver futures, 7:19 a.m. ET, Oct. 5 $62.19 Timestamped futures quote, higher than the reported open.
Kitco spot snapshot, 22:45 EST, Oct. 5 $60.54 bid; $60.79 ask Spot bid and ask. Kitco also displayed a daily low of $60.24 and high of $62.15.
Servicio Geológico Mexicano, Oct. 5 daily value $61.820 The page displays this value per ounce and attributes it to LBMA; it is not the same observation as a futures quote or Kitco spot bid.

The figures are not necessarily contradictory: futures, spot bid/ask quotes, and a benchmark-attributed daily value describe different market observations. The available information does not establish one canonical closing price for October 5.

Did silver rise steadily that day?

The morning futures report supports a narrower conclusion: Yahoo Finance said December silver futures opened at $60.70 per ounce and stood at $62.19 at 7:19 a.m. ET. It also described the open as the lowest level seen in weeks. The later Kitco spot snapshot, however, showed a $60.24–$62.15 daily range and a $60.54 bid at 22:45 EST. That evidence does not support saying silver rose steadily across the entire session.

What was behind the morning move?

Yahoo Finance connected the early rise to reduced expectations of an October Federal Reserve rate increase after a weaker-than-anticipated U.S. jobs report. In its contemporaneous account, Yahoo said CME FedWatch showed a 19.4% chance of a rate increase in a couple of weeks. That probability is a reported market estimate, not confirmation that a rate move would or would not occur, and it was not independently verified here against the historical FedWatch series.

Yahoo also reported September payroll growth of 29,000, unemployment of 4.2% versus 4.1% the prior month, and consensus expectations of 90,000 jobs. Those are figures from Yahoo’s article; they should be understood as its reporting rather than as independently confirmed Labor Department data in this account. Interest-rate expectations can help explain market sentiment, but the reporting does not prove they alone caused silver’s price movement.

Why price reports use different silver numbers

  • Instrument: A December futures contract is not the same quote as spot silver.
  • Quote type: A spot bid is the price at which a market participant may buy; an ask is the offered selling price. A daily benchmark-attributed value follows a separate convention.
  • Time: An early-morning futures quote and a late-session spot snapshot capture different moments. The Servicio Geológico Mexicano page labels its figure for the date, rather than as a timestamped futures quote.
  • Unit and currency: These reported amounts are U.S. dollars per troy ounce. A silver price stated in another currency or unit cannot be compared directly without conversion.

LBMA describes its silver benchmark as the global benchmark for unallocated silver delivered in London and says it is administered by ICE Benchmark Administration Limited. LBMA also says a license is required to obtain, use, or redistribute real-time or historical benchmark data. The daily figure displayed by the Servicio Geológico Mexicano is attributed to LBMA on that page; it should not be treated as a freely reusable live benchmark feed.

What a market quote means for buying coins or bars

A quoted spot or benchmark price is not necessarily the amount a consumer pays for physical silver. Dealers may charge a markup above spot when selling bullion bars or silver bullion coins. The actual purchase price depends on the dealer’s offer and the product; no retail price is established by the October 5 market observations above.
